Mountain Internet Saintess – Chapter 56

Divine Cow’s Milk

→ Milk that can be extracted from a cow infused with Divine Power.
One sip doubles your base level.
Continuing to drink it leads to health and longevity.
Note: It has rejuvenating and beautifying effects.

“With this, I can keep going 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!”

Fubuki wagged her tail excitedly, buzzing with energy. It was great to see her so lively.

However, the fundamental issue (the shortage of sitters) still remained unresolved.

“There are still problems, you know. What are we going to do about this cow?”

Hermes said, touching Kyube-e gently.

“I brought Kyube-e back in Mika’s form,” I explained.

From Lisia-chan’s perspective, she must be wondering where Kyuuki went.

“I guess we could let her graze over there,” I suggested.

“Woooon…”

Kyube-e cried out sadly, nuzzling against me.

Pew! “I’m lonely!”

Akahane translated for her. Hmm, it was indeed lonely to isolate just this little one.

“We can create a Gate.”

I decided to construct a Gate that would connect this side with the other, allowing travel between Dead End and here.

“Hakubyō, can you help me make the Gate?”
“Meow!”

Satsuma-kun helped me build a barn next to the Log House.

Inside was a simple barn with a sleeping area and a passage. There was an entrance for Kyube-e, and at the back of the room was the Gate.

“Now, I just need to inform Lisia-chan, and we’re all set.”

Oh, right.

“Everyone from the Twilight Dragon, come along. I want to introduce you to Lisia-chan.”

The reason I originally hired this S-rank adventurer party was to assist Lisia-chan.

And so, we headed to Dead End. Passing through the Gate, we arrived at the small house Mika was using.

Next to this house, there was also a barn (Satsuma-kun built it in no time).

As I exited the barn, I made my way toward Lisia-chan’s place.

“Oh, Mika-sama!”

Lisia-chan was just arriving at my house.

“What’s up?”
“I came to deliver crude oil as a thank you for today.”

Thank you for today…?

“Did I do something?”
“Truly, Mika-sama, you are such a humble person! You facilitated the negotiations with the Empire, didn’t you?”

Ah, that…

“I didn’t need any thanks for that.”
“No! Thanks to you, Mika-sama, everything went smoothly. I must express my gratitude properly!”

Hmm, so earnest. I can’t say I dislike that serious side of her.

“Lisia-chan, I have a small favor to ask you.”
“Please, say anything! I will do anything for you, Mika-sama!”

You shouldn’t say such things to adults. You might end up being taken advantage of by a bad adult.

“I’d like you to take care of one of my friends for a bit.”

I invited her into the house. Inside were the members of the Twilight Dragon.

Lisia-chan stood there, mouth agape in shock.

“T-T-Twilight Dragon members!?”

Oh right, the Twilight Dragon was the number one party in the kingdom and incredibly famous.

“These kids were in need of work, so I thought they could help out here… What’s wrong?”

Lisia-chan knelt down and began to pray toward me.

“God…”

Wait, did she figure out that I’m a Living God…!?

“Mika-sama is the Goddess of Fortune… Ever since you came here, only good things have happened to us…”

I thought I had been discovered as a Living God…

“I cannot thank you enough, Mika-sama!”
“You’re welcome. So, what’s your answer?”

“Of course, it’s a yes!”

Lisia-chan bowed to each member of the Twilight Dragon one by one. Truly, she was a diligent girl.

“You’re such a good and serious child, Mika-sama,” Rita said with a smile.
I felt relieved knowing these kids would get along well.

“Oh, by the way, I’d also like to leave Kyube-e with you.”
“Kyube-e…?”

I gently patted Kyube-e’s back.

“Mika-sama, what is this cow…?”
“Ah, this is Kyuuki.”

“Kyuuki!? This little one is!?”

Lisia-chan must have seen Kyuuki in her pre-evolved form, looking like a mop dog.

“After I washed her, she turned into this!”

Wow… even I felt that was a weak excuse. The color change from white to golden didn’t resemble her original form at all.

They might suspect something was off…

“I see! So that’s what happened!”

You’re too honest; it worries me, dear sister…

“If it’s a cow, how about letting Grandpa Ushika take care of her?”
“Grandpa Ushika?”

“Yes! He’s the only dairy farmer in this village.”

So they do dairy farming here… Well, it’s better to have someone who knows about cows take care of her.

“Can you introduce me?”
“Of course!”

Together with Lisia-chan, we headed to meet Grandpa Ushika. His house was located on the outskirts of the village, a reasonable walk from mine.

There was a fence to prevent the cows from escaping… though it was quite rickety. There was also a barn, albeit in poor condition.

“Grandpa Ushika!”
“What is it…?”

An elderly man appeared from inside, frail and seemingly on the verge of collapsing. He was trembling and bent at a 90-degree angle.

Lisia-chan explained the situation to Grandpa Ushika.

“I see, that’s fine.”
“Thank you… but you’re a dairy farmer, right? Do you have other cows?”

“Of course. Though, I’m practically out of business now. I only have two left…”

Beyond the fence, there were two frail cows. When Kyube-e entered, one approached and licked her face.

Kyube-e returned the gesture, and soon all three of them stood still. They weren’t fighting; they seemed to get along well.

“Well then, let’s milk her.”
“Huh? I just milked her once earlier?”

“Dairy cows need to be milked frequently, or they’ll get sick. The quality of the milk will also decline.”

Now that I think about it, if dairy cows aren’t milked, they can develop mastitis.

I had completely forgotten. It’s definitely best to leave it to the professionals.

“Alright then… Kyube-e, I’ll milk you now… here we go… whoa!”

With a nasty crack, Grandpa Ushika froze in place.

“My back…”
“A-Are you okay, Grandpa!?”
“I might be done for… I see my late wife…”

“Grandpa! Oh no, what should I do!?”

I tried to cast a healing spell, but then I suddenly realized. I pulled out the milk from Kyube-e that I had just milked (in a bottle) from the Box.

“Grandpa, try drinking this. It’s Kyube-e’s milk.”
“Huh…? Why milk…?”

“It’ll make you feel better.”

Nodding, Grandpa put the bottle to his lips.

“Ugh!?”
“Huh?”
“Wooooah! I feel invigorated!”

With a crackle and a bang, Grandpa’s shirt burst open!?

““““What!?””””

Lisia-chan and the members of the Twilight Dragon were astonished.

Grandpa had… gone from being a frail old man to a muscular powerhouse!

“Ugh! I feel so strong!”
“S-Spectacular… Mika-sama, what on earth happened?”

Lisia-chan… it seems she’s come to believe that if anything strange happens, it’s all my doing.

“It seems Kyube-e’s milk has some incredible nutrients.”
“I see! Hmm! My body is brimming with power! I feel rejuvenated!”

Oh, right. The milk has rejuvenating and beautifying effects.

If the elderly in Dead End drink this milk, they might regain their vitality…?

Having more hands around would be beneficial.

“Grandpa Ushika, please distribute this milk to everyone.”
“Understood!”

Alright, good.

“Mika-sama… could it be that this milk is an incredibly valuable item?”

Sharp as ever, Lisia-chan.

“Ah, um! I’ll buy this milk! I really will!”
“Eh, no need. It’s free. You introduced me to Grandpa Ushika, right? That’s enough.”

“No! I must pay for the milk properly!”

Hmm, so earnest. I feel bad taking too much from her.

“Ah, how about this? I’ll have Grandpa Ushika take care of Kyube-e, and in exchange, I’ll provide the milk. How does that sound?”

Honestly, I can’t manage the cow’s health myself. I could do it using Omniscience, but…

Lisia-chan knelt down again, striking a prayer pose.

“Mika-sama is indeed a goddess… to provide such a rare milk for free.”
I found myself being thanked profusely, even though I hadn’t done anything particularly noteworthy.
