Day 10: Pattern Drafting
Logged in, Day 10.
I decided to look into Brand Tags.
First, it seems that once you reach a certain level, you can register your own shop as a brand with the Guild. Then, for 30 Kima per tag—Kima being the currency of this world—you can issue Brand Tags.
If you incorporate this Brand Tag into your crafted goods, other people apparently can’t repair, dismantle, or resell that Item. So, I guess it’s a system to prevent your customers from being unfairly snatched away.
However, looking at player opinions, exchanging unused Items for money is a perfectly normal thing to do, not at all unreasonable. So, if you put this tag on everything, your shop itself might get shunned.
It seems the balanced approach is to only attach tags to designs you can confidently call original, or to products where supply is low compared to demand.
I had also reached the level where I could create a brand, so I immediately went to the Guild and registered. The tags themselves can be issued through the Guild app.
But, after issuing about 10 of them as a test, I realized something. Since the shop name is registered as the brand name as is, my brand name, “Boutique BiBiA,” which has this terribly Showa-era vibe, got carried over…
I was planning to fix the shop name later, but, well, now that it’s come to this, maybe this is fine. It’s gradually becoming too much of a bother.
For now, I plan to attach tags to any OriDeza items I make from now on.
I do think it might be a bit self-conscious of me, but I don’t want to have any unpleasant experiences later. Taking Memeko-san’s advice into account, I’ll try to be careful about self-protection, just in case.
As for obtaining Recipes from the library, it seems you can get a maximum of three per day, and if you’re lucky, one skill in addition to that. In addition to communicating with customers, visiting the library has now become part of my routine for a while.
Today, I got the Recipes for 【Skinny Pants】, 【Pleated Skirt】, and 【Napoleon Hat】.
Now, I’d like to start making clothes based on these Recipes right away, but to tailor clothes, you need the Recipe, materials, and one more thing: a Pattern.
You can buy Patterns at a craft store, but they’re quite expensive, not something to scoff at. One or two would be fine, but if I were to get Patterns for all the Recipes I’ve found, I’d definitely go broke at my current financial state.
Besides, not all types are sold, so there are some that are hard to get at shops.
The system prepared as a relief measure for poor beginners like me is this: the analog “Trace” function. You get full-scale drafting data from the Recipe, place drafting paper on top, and then meticulously trace the lines and cut the paper accordingly. It’s a method that really makes you wonder for a moment, “What even is a game…?” as your thoughts drift away.
Well, I don’t dislike this kind of work, though. I don’t dislike it, but after finishing three of them, I still end up feeling like, “Ah, maybe this is enough for today.”
If I were to trace every single Recipe I find, it seems like it would be endless. I’d probably end up spending a significant portion of my already limited, precious game time.
Since I’ll be arranging them later anyway, maybe it’s best to just make Patterns for representative Recipes and ignore similar ones unless absolutely necessary.
Games are, at the end of the day, entertainment. A diversion.
Playing within the range you can enjoy is the best way.
So, I decided to wrap up copying Patterns around here and get to tailoring. My collection of Recipes has grown, so today, I’m finally going to seriously start making an outfit for myself.
First, I’ll start by preparing a large amount of pure white 【Intelli-Cloth】 using a dyeing kit.
Intelli-Cloth has the property of increasing your concentration stat. Since the concentration stat apparently affects skill effectiveness, I’m guessing that if I wear clothes made from this cloth, I’ll somehow be able to do higher quality work.
Once the cloth is ready, I’ll use Sheeting Cloth for basting while altering the Patterns to my liking.
The Patterns I’ll use are for the 【Napoleon Hat】, 【Open-Collared Shirt】, 【Jacket】, 【Pleated Skirt】, and also 【Engineer Boots】. Since I got a Recipe for such an interesting hat shape, I want to make a pure white captain costume centered around it.
For clothes like these stage costumes, small accessories are quite important, so after finalizing the entire concept, a whole bunch of missing materials popped up. Things like ribbons and buttons.
If I rush out to buy them, my money will be pretty much down to zero.
Somehow, I’m always broke in this world… I’m living a tightrope-walking life of earning and spending, earning and spending.
Well, contributing to economic stimulation is important, right?
