Profession: Tailor – Chapter 17

Day 16: Trash Business
Logged in, Day 16

“Ugh.”

When I opened my shop information, I couldn’t help but groan, even though I was alone.
The [Trash] I had listed on the World Market yesterday for 1,000,000 Kima had actually sold. An idiot. There’s an idiot out there.

As for why I’d resorted to such a crazy business tactic, well, it was nothing more than spite. Yesterday, due to confusion, anxiety, and irritation, my normal judgment was a little impaired.

I figured I’d try to reset my mood by focusing on crafting for a bit. And so, once I’d made a bunch of Items, it was a natural flow, or maybe I was just on autopilot, when I added them to my shop.
Then, in just five or ten minutes, while I was dealing with a customer event, all the Items sold out, and a flood of new messages came pouring in.

Even if it’s just a game, I was still a little shocked.
Of course, I use shortcuts a lot, but some of my Items have designs I put a lot of thought into, or ones I carefully craft by hand.
I list them hoping people who like them or genuinely need them will use them. But most of those people were just using it as a tool to send me unrelated messages.

At that point, I kind of snapped. Tehepero.

“Alright, if that’s how you want to play, I’ll play along. But that’ll be 100,000 Kima per message, thank you very much.”
So, I tried listing [Healing Mint], which normally goes for 50 to 100 Kima, for 100,000 Kima each in 10 slots. And they sold out instantly.
That was the moment my eyes were blinded by a gold rush. Suddenly, I could forgive everything. Even all those anti-revolution comments. Well, I’m not taking them off the Blacklist, though.

However, it’s not like I felt like taking advantage of this to make even more money. Doing that would be like provoking them further—well, putting aside the fact I already provoked them once—and it’s not like I want to breeze through the game by taking the easy way.
It’s just that, at this rate, it was clear my shop wouldn’t be able to function normally for a while. I hated the idea of diligently listing Items I’d spent time and effort making, just for people who wanted to send pointless messages.

So, I decided not to list anything on the World Market until things calmed down, but with a little bit of rebelliousness, I put up [Trash] for 1,000,000 Kima.
As expected, it seemed no one was willing to buy that, and as of yesterday, it remained unsold. It had remained unsold, but when I checked today, the Item was sold out. 1,000,000 Kima deposited. And one new message.

Man, I thought I was pretty foolish, but this person was an even bigger fool. Is the future of this game gonna be okay? Isn’t the player base’s civility level kinda terrible? Their intelligence score is so low.
However, since they paid 1,000,000 Kima just to say something to me, well, I suppose I’ll at least read it. I’ll probably Blacklist them immediately afterward, but I’ll read it, at least.

And so, while grumbling to myself, I tapped the message icon.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Takenaka.
I believe the [Trash] Item was probably meant as a sort of insect repellent, but I bought it because there was something I absolutely had to tell you ^^; I’m sorry.

I saw Vivia-san’s outfit in town and fell in love with it at first sight. The buttons used on the jacket and hat, I actually made them myself.
If possible, I would like to request you to tailor something similar using materials I specify. Of course, I will provide the materials.

If you’re interested, this is my ID, so please send me a friend request. I’ll set up a private chat room. (You can unfriend me once our business is concluded, that’s fine.)
Alternatively, we can arrange a date and time to meet directly in Kima-Kura. If you’re on social media, we can communicate there too.

I look forward to your reply.”

The one with the low intelligence score—or rather, low quality of heart—was actually me. My eyes widened at the message, which was an immeasurable number of times more decent than I had expected, and I sent a telepathic dogeza to this Takenaka-san.

[Kima-Kura Utopia. Chat Room (Unofficial) – Party Recruitment Room]

[yuka]
Would anyone be willing to do the ‘Please Find the Ring Dropped in the Lake’ quest with me?
Looking for people with Diving and Hunting skills, please.
My class is Gardener, and I only have the Diving skill, so I’ll be completely dedicated to being dead weight.
I have a Level 20+ Beast Tamer friend with me, recruiting up to two more people.

[Panfesta]
That one also requires Butchering.
Well, if you have a Hunter, you should be fine, I think.

[Ma Yu]
Heeey! (=゚▽゚)/
Class Hunter Lv. 40+, Diving, Hunting, Butchering all OK.

[yuka]
>>Panfesta-san
Oh, is that so?
Understood.
>>Ma Yu-san
Thank you very much!
Looking forward to partying with you!

[Fukase Saya]
Mayu, you changed classes?

[Ma Yu]
I did.
About two months ago?

[KUDOU-S1]
Gatherers start getting jealous of Hunters once they really get into it, huh? lol

[Ma Yu]
Yep.
But once you start playing Hunter, you want to go back to being a Gatherer.

[Milk Kingdom]
You just have to keep repeating the max level + class change combo to become a Gathering Hunter.

[Panfesta]
That sounds like it’d take forever, lol.
How many years would that take?

[Valen]
Hmm… I seem to recall there was such a hardcore player back in the day… or maybe not…

[ee]
Eh, which Yoshio-san are you talking about?

[Hitei Shinai Nao]
Stop it, lololol

[YTYT]
Not even trying to protect your own, lmao.
>>yuka
I’ll help.
Class Carpenter Lv. 90+, but I have Diving and damage skills.

[yuka]
Thank you very much!
Then please come to the Guild in Rendolushka.
Look for the Obsidian Crow my friend has with them.

[YTYT]
Roger~

[Ma Yu]
Okay.

[Milan]
Why don’t you use the Guild app’s party recruitment feature?
That one’s faster since it automatically teleports you to the host once the members are confirmed.

[Fukase Saya]
We use this to screen members.
The other one confirms automatically as soon as it’s full, so the rate of getting landmines is high.
Not saying there are no landmines here, though.

[Hitei Shinai Nao]
The app is an easy-to-use system where you can join unconditionally if you meet the requirements, whereas here, you have to communicate at least minimally.
Silent types probably wouldn’t use this place in the first place, and you can also avoid unpleasant people.

[Hato]
For brain-dead quests with party bonuses, the app is perfectly fine, though.

[Milan]
I see.
Yeah, I also immediately disbanded my party when Matoush joined with a smile.
Screening is important.

[Panfesta]
That’s harsh, lol.

[Hitei Shinai Nao]
No, that’s harsh of you, lol. Matoush, the ‘Police’, is a relatively decent player who just has trauma from extremist Kima-Kura fans, lol.

[YTYT]
A decent player wouldn’t watch the chat room just to correct how people abbreviate the game title, though.

[Una]
That said, manual sorting allows for requirement scams to pass, so it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other.
