Day 7: Dyeing
Log-in Day 7
Today, I think I’ll hole up at home and focus on crafting.
I’ve gathered various new materials and Patterns using the money and GP I made from selling gathered Items. I also want to try using the furs I bought from Magdala-san right away.
First, using a dress shirt Pattern and a skirt Pattern as references, I tried making a one-piece dress Pattern.
The sleeves are short, and the bodice is shaped like a typical polo shirt, with a triangular collar and three buttons. I made the skirt part gather slightly for a modest flare.
Even with a template, Pattern making is almost entirely manual, so it’s Kima-Kura. This might be the toughest part of handicrafts. I remember struggling in the beginning to decipher and memorize all the little markings for things like button placements and gathers.
But once you’ve made a rough version of the Pattern, the game conveniently handles the cutting and sewing with a shortcut. That’s the easy part about games.
What’s great is that it turns the Pattern you made into a finished form in an instant, so you can quickly make adjustments like slimming the waist or adding more gathers.
Real-life handicrafts are super tedious at this stage.
However, there’s no shortcut key for undoing a sewn garment, so the more you fuss over adjustments, the more materials you’ll use up.
Well, even in this world, cheap Sheeting Cloth for test garments exists, so I use it up without worrying too much.
You can name Patterns you’ve modified yourself, so I registered the one-piece dress Pattern I just made as [Short-Sleeve Shirt Dress].
Now, for the fun part: actual production.
First, I’ll try making some with the various colored and patterned cotton cloths I bought at the town’s textile shop. A deep indigo, a calm beige, and also a green tartan check.
As I was making various things, my profession level also went up, so all the [Cotton One-Piece Dresses] I made ended up being ★3 quality.
Next, I decided to try using something called a [Simple Dyeing Kit] that I exchanged GP for. As the name suggests, it’s a tool for dyeing cloth and such.
Additionally, in this world, it’s possible to imbue special effects by mixing other Items into the dye—that’s information from the guy at the tool shop. He also taught me the basics of how to use it.
The Item’s contents include metal tools like a pot and tongs, and glass containers for measuring.
I didn’t have enough money to buy dyes, so this time I’ll just try it with only special materials.
Dyeing is basically boiling cloth in dye to let the color soak in, right? So, imbuing special effects must also mean boiling it to let the material’s components soak into the cloth.
If it’s just about imbuing effects, I should be able to manage with just water, cloth, and the material. I’ve already prepared water drawn from the public well.
For now, as an experiment, I decided to choose [Sheeting Cloth] and the abundant [Healing Mint] I have as synthesis materials.
And here, a [Simple Stove] that I also exchanged GP for makes its appearance.
Let’s see, I load the [Phantasm Stone] fuel inside and add some oil. Oh! It lit.
Then, I put the pot with water on the fire and add the ingredients. After that, I just stir it around with the tongs, and when I hear a “ping!” sound, it’s done.
…And so, this pseudo-dyeing process, unlike tailoring, is almost entirely manual, just like in real life.
Why? Because I’m not a Weaver—dyeing is apparently included in this profession—so I don’t have any shortcut skills related to cloth production.
If a Weaver profession player were to do this, I imagine they’d just select the materials in front of the tools, and the cloth would be made automatically.
Compared to that, doing another profession’s work yourself is quite a hassle. Of course, things like the time it takes to boil or for the components to soak in are all game-ified, so it’s still much easier than in reality.
In short, the presence or absence of shortcut skills is what differentiates the professions in this game. Conversely, it means that if you’re willing to spend the time and effort, you can dabble in other professions’ fields, which I think is a pretty kind system for someone like me who loves solo play.
So, here’s the finished product after a bit of time and effort.
[Trash]
Quality: —
Industrial waste. Might not be entirely unusable for something.
Typical Use: —
Gooong. Unbelievable, my first time creating Trash.
I thought there were various options for materials, but it seems not everything is a correct choice. In that case, medicinal herbs might be the wrong way to go.
What about [Wise Nuts]? The description says, “Can be widely used as a production material,” so I think there’s a chance.
And so, I dyed it—or rather, boiled it—and…
[Intelli-Cloth]
Quality: ★
Cloth imbued with the power to stimulate the mind.
Typical Use: Sewing
Oooh, I made something! The base material was super coarse Sheeting Cloth, so it’s not something I can sell. But Wise Nuts were a hit, huh?
In that case, maybe [Ladybug] will work too? Its description also says, “Can be widely used as a production material.”
And indeed, the experiment was a success.
[Light Cloth]
Quality: ★
Cloth imbued with the power of light.
Main Use: Sewing
Nice! Alright, next time, I’ll try synthesizing with proper cotton cloth as the base.

[akane k]
I’m a Tailor, what should I start with?
[Ephy]
Go to the Guild and join a clan.
If you live in a city, apprenticing at a Tailor’s workshop is also an option.
[Jumbo]
What’s the point of titles?
[Ephy]
Depending on the title you have set, event occurrences and NPC reactions will change.
NPCs judge you by your set title.
[akane K]
I’m a bit scared to join a clan right away, are there any clans recommended for beginners?
[Ephy]
There are clans run by NPCs.
The workshops you can apprentice at are also NPCs.
[vitaminW]
Are there any advantageous professions in this game?
[Ephy]
Anything other than Merchant and Inventor.
[Momo Taro]
Merchant is OP as hell.
[Ephy]
Read the room title.
[Yoshio lol]
Recommending Merchant to a beginner, are you nuts? lol
[Ephy]
You too, read the room title.
[Elise]
What should someone who wants to fish become?
[Ephy]
Hunter.
[Nejiko+]
What are the advantages of starting in the countryside?
[Ephy]
A big house and yard.
[Nejiko+]
You can move later, right?
[Ephy]
You can.
[Zoebel]
Cielshanta’s event progression is stuck on the third one.
What should I do?
[Ephy]
Give up.
