Day 9: The Library
Logged in for the 9th day.
It’s been a day since I changed my pricing, but so far, sales are about the same as the day before.
However, considering that sales used to increase every time I added new items, no change might actually mean the momentum is slowing down a bit, perhaps? I guess there were people who were buying because of the low prices.
Though, taking Memeko-san’s opinion into account, this is probably better in the long run, I’m sure. It’s not like I’m in a situation where I can’t progress in the game because I’m not earning anything, so I’ll just keep steadily working on production.
Anyway, today I think I’ll try going to the Royal Library. Apparently, you can learn new Recipes and, rarely, skills there.
The fact that my Admission Permit is a suspicious one I bought from Magdala makes me a bit uneasy, but it’s worth a try. It’s a game world, so it probably won’t lead to anything irreversible.
The Royal Library in the central district was an old-fashioned, enormous white brick building. The regularly arranged latticed windows were stylish.
Upon entering, I found an atrium that spanned all floors, with towers of bookshelves lined up regularly, both above and to the sides. Connecting the bookshelves were intricate staircases, walkways suspended in mid-air, and even elevators (lifts).
It was as complex as a maze, and watching people move around was enough to make me dizzy.
“Hello. If you wish to use the library, please present your Admission Permit here.”
As I was dumbfounded by the sheer volume of information, a voice called out from the side.
At the counter, a bunny-eared lady was smiling serenely. It seemed this was where I needed to register.
My heart pounding, I handed over the [Royal Library Admission Permit] I had bought from Magdala.
The lady read some kind of number from it and began typing characters into a machine on her desk. It was a strange contraption, like a typewriter and a computer combined, looking somewhat antique but not entirely.
“Alright, verification complete. Thank you very much.”
Quite nonchalantly, the lady returned my Permit. She didn’t seem to have any suspicions at all.
What, so it’s really okay.
Still, a world where you can buy official documents like this from a traveling merchant… Hmm, it’s a cultural setting I don’t quite understand. Well, if they’re okay with it, then I have no complaints about following their customs.
Alright then, I’d like to start searching for Recipes & skills, but, um, what should I do?
“Yes, how may I help you?”
When I entered the command to speak to the lady again, a set of choices appeared.
→ Tell me how to find books
Tell me about recommended books
Ah, good. This must be it.
Please tell me how to find books.
“The library is like an ocean of books—no, it’s like a universe of books, isn’t it? It might seem difficult to find what you’re looking for among this vast collection of writings. But encountering a book is no miracle. Just as you are searching for a book, the book is also waiting for you to find it. That book will surely shine brightly for you, like a star in this universe. I hope you have a wonderful encounter.”
Huh? What’s that? That’s super abstract.
Even if I asked for her guidance again, she would just repeat the same lines. Books shining like stars, what on earth is that? That’s occult stuff.
As I was fuming about this, something twinkled at the edge of my vision. Looking up, I saw something emitting a blue light at the end of one bookshelf.
…Huh, could that be a book where I can get a Recipe? Is that how the system works?
Far from being occult, it seems the lady was explaining something very meta. I see… Encountering a book is no miracle at all, huh…
But anyway, now I know how to search for Recipes.
Using the stairs and aerial walkways, I reached the bookshelf located on a fairly high floor. And when I opened the book emitting the blue light, a dialog box appeared.
Obtained the Recipe for [Chesterfield Coat]!
A coat, huh? Nice. It seems like it would be fun to customize.
I wonder if there are others… As I looked around the library, this time, much lower—below the entrance floor, so maybe in the basement?—another blue light was shining.
If this were reality, this amount of movement and travel distance would be great for a diet.
In that manner, while struggling with the intricate paths, I managed to obtain Recipes for [Lolita Headdress] and [Engineer Boots], as well as the [Repair] skill.
[Repair] is apparently a skill that can restore worn-out Items to like-new condition.
However, it’s only for Items in one’s own specialized field. Also, Items with a Brand Tag can only be repaired by their original creator.
What’s a Brand Tag? I should look it up.
[Kima-Kura Utopia. Talk Room (Official) – General]
[Naltheek]
Finally gathered 10 Crystal Mists for the first time.
With this, I can host the Intrabody Library.
Just you wait, Giltoa~~~~
[Una]
Congrats.
Despairing after getting the Memorandum first back in the day is a fond memory.
[Milk Kingdom]
Wanna hear my story about offering Crystal Mists to Lilsten and getting Comet Crow feathers in return?
[Momo Taro]
That’s just being uninformed.
[Ma Yu]
I’ve been carrying around 10 Crystal Mists for about a week now wanting Hell’s Ear, but I seriously can’t find Magdala.
[Azarashi]
I hear Danama is the easiest place to find her.
[Momo Taro]
That’s just superstition.
[Letima]
It’s gotten to the point where you need Hell’s Ear to find Magdala.
They’ve completely given it to the wrong person, haven’t they?
[Alaska]
Speaking of Magdala, that library Admission Permit she sells, can you actually use it normally?
I’m an academy graduate so I’ve had one from the start, but I’m kinda curious.
[Mamenosuke]
Ah, that’s a semi-trap.
Some reception staff will let it slide, but with others, you’ll get fined & have your Permit confiscated.
[Una]
Also, you can’t enter the archives.
If you try to enter, you’ll have to show your Permit, so you’re out on the spot.
You’ll get a criminal record too, so use it with caution.
[Momo Taro]
Emilia’s part-time job confirmed lol
[Alaska]
Whoa, that’s harsh.
Wait, this game has a criminal record system?
What happened to ‘living carefree’…
[Naltheek]
Don’t be fooled.
Kima-Kura is a social education game that relentlessly forces you to confront the responsibilities that come with freedom.
[Matoush]
Add a period.
[Naltheek]
My apologies.
Typo: Kima-Kura -> Kima-Kura.
[Mayu]
Well, if it’s just Permit fraud, the criminal record period is short.
Like 2 days, I think.
[universe202]
Huh? I used that Permit and went in and out of the archives normally, though.
I heard you could get caught at reception, so I got a legit one and haven’t used it recently, but did it change with an update or something?
[Narikin-Agari]
What happens when you get a criminal record?
Please tell me, all you criminals.
[Milk Kingdom]
You’re forcibly given the ‘Ex-Convict’ title.
If you talk to NPCs with that title, their affection might drop, or you might become unable to receive services.
From an ex-convict (smile)
[Yuuhei]
I… I like you! (whoosh)
[Una]
If Ephy is a hero of justice, then Damu-shi is a dark hero of justice, huh.
[Momo Taro]
Ephy is a pervert of justice.
