Reincarnated Captain Hunter’s Child – Chapter 21

Episode 21: Hakoniwa and Lanterns

Blostwill Academy. This academy, a place of learning for the children of nobles, has another face.

It is the ‘Magic Research Institute.’

Among the children of nobles, it’s a popular career path for those who won’t inherit the family or territory, as it’s safer than joining the Knights Order.

However, entering requires a certain level of magical talent and knowledge, making it a relatively narrow gate.

And the research conducted at this institute is stored in the academy’s library. In other words, anyone who can enter and leave the academy can browse it.

“The theory of Teleportation Magic using Spatial Magic, huh?”

Teleportation Magic was a magic that existed even in the Unified Space Force era. I could probably use it if I wanted to. It’s a magic that instantly moves a substance from point A to point B, and theoretically, it’s not that difficult.

However, like in the Unified Space Force, it was a magic prohibited by the laws of each star system at the time.

Simply because it’s dangerous. In the process of teleporting an object, if there’s a foreign object at point B, it would scrape away the foreign object along with the space around it. This includes everything in the air. If there’s something there, if there’s a creature, if there’s a person…

It’s a magic that always carries the potential to involve something, even if you know for sure that there’s nothing there. Therefore, it was treated as a forbidden art, and I didn’t learn it either.

“That’s why there’s Spatial Jump Magic, isn’t it?”

Spatial Jump Magic is a magic that creates a hole connecting space and space. This hole expands without gaps, so it doesn’t involve anything. Of course, as a safety measure, it’s designed not to activate when it seems like it might involve something.

“Isn’t there anything else?”

I haven’t had much time until now, but I’m currently researching if there’s anything unique to this world in Non-Attribute Magic and Spatial Attribute Magic, which I have an aptitude for.

Psychokinesis and Barriers are too convenient, so I’ll put Non-Attribute Magic on hold for now. It’s also out of curiosity that I’m studying Spatial Magic.

“Dimension Burst… Some people think of dangerous magic, huh?”

Spacetime Quakes at the level that an individual can produce are ‘almost’ non-existent. However, if you ask whether it has ever been observed, it has. It’s not a magic that you can casually try, even if it’s not in the void space.

Spatial Wall. It’s convenient, but Barriers are sufficient for now. It acts on space, so it has higher defense, but the Magical Power consumption is on a different level.

Spacetime Slash? Everyone thinks the same thing. The idea of nullifying the opponent’s defense by cutting through space. This also consumes a tremendous amount of Magical Power, but what it does is no different from an SB Lance. It’s faster to just cut normally.

Spatial Storage is literally a warehouse where you can store materials. The time inside mine is stopped, but the ones Lady Evelyn prepared the other day, like the Magic Bag, generally have the time inside running normally. Well, it’s probably the difference between living a life where you might travel the vast universe for months or even years, and not.

…Maybe they just don’t have the idea of stopping time.

“The names are different, but it’s all magic with similar effects.”

Perhaps because there are few users, the content being researched is also limited. So, it can’t be helped that the amount of books is small compared to other magic.

“Hakoniwa?”

I found an unusual way to use Spatial Magic.

“Come to think of it, there was such a way of thinking.”

It was a magic that couldn’t be used during void navigation, and I hadn’t learned it because I often worked outside planets. Small World Creation Magic. Here, it seems to be called Hakoniwa.

The door connecting the world created by Small World Creation Magic and the real world is fixed. Once closed, it can be created in another place, but the caster cannot close the door while inside the small world. If you create a door during constantly moving void navigation or on a station, the door might end up drifting in the void.

Also, because it’s a place where people come and go, you can’t set time stop.

That’s why I didn’t learn it, and there were hardly any users in the military.

“Nice, I think I’ll learn it.”

It was a maniacal magic, but it’s perfect for me now that I live on a planet.

Let’s actually try it out.

“First, what I need to prepare is… a dedicated Magic Core, huh?”

I can’t test Spatial Magic in the library, after all. I’ll go back to my room and do the work.

The research institute I copied had a method of imbuing Magic Stones with the Spatial Attribute. It’s a primitive method of overwriting the attribute with Magical Power without turning the Magic Stone itself into a Magic Item. I’m not going to do it exactly like that.

“Where can I find the Spatial Attribute Magic Circle…?”

Magic-related books are in the Spatial Storage. Someone, somewhere, was planning to build a library after remodeling their planet, so it contains a jumble of books from history books to cookbooks. Of course, Magic-related books are also included.

The materials were basically in electronic format, but it’s also interesting to read them in book form.

“This is the Magic Core for Spatial Jump, and this is the Magic Core for Spatial Preservation…”

This time, I’ll use the Magic Core for Spatial Preservation. It’s a Magic Core that’s also in my Spatial Storage.

“It’s best to have one with the highest possible purity.”

I’ll splurge here and use a Monster Magic Stone I acquired during my time in the Space Force. I have a lot of them.

“This Magical Power purity is irresistible.”

Among the Monsters on this planet, I haven’t encountered a Magic Stone with this high purity yet.

Of course, there are some reasonably strong Monsters, but after all, the top-ranked Monsters in the vast universe are on a different level. Even in the Unified Space Force, Monsters with a high alert level are still different.

“Okay, I don’t want to fail, so I’ll do it properly.”

I take out a dedicated fixing stand that can change the size of the hollow for Magic Stone processing and set the Magic Stone there. I set the Magic Circle on the illumination that projects the Magic Circle, and I change the angle of the Magic Stone to determine the optimal position.

Once that’s done, I just trace the lines projected onto the Magic Stone with a dedicated magic pen. If I don’t use Fixation Magic, I can redo it if I fail, but I’ll do it carefully.

“Nostalgic.”

When I was working as a combat engineer in the military, I did a lot of this kind of work. I received a lot of training.

“…Is this good enough?”

I move the Magic Stone and change the angle to check if there are any distortions or problems in the Magic Circle.

Yeah, it looks fine.

“Then next is, with my own Magical Power.”

Next is Small World Creation Magic. It’s long, so should I shorten it to Hakoniwa? Creating a Hakoniwa.

This is a magic that creates a gap in space with your own Magical Power to create a room, fixes it, and makes it accessible.

“For now, an entrance and… imagine a room.”

A black entrance appears in space. There’s nothing inside the space, not even light. That’s why the entrance is completely black.

“Lantern!”

Among the military supplies, there are also civilian goods. This lantern is one of them. Well, it’s just a lantern. Camping equipment made by Hayami Electric. It can be turned on/off by reacting to the registrant’s Magical Power, so you can turn it on without holding it. It also has dimming and color adjustment functions, but this requires operating the grip on the main unit.

It also has a mosquito repellent function and is a hit product that is useful not only for camping but also for various outdoor activities.

I take out several such lanterns and place them in the room.

“But, it’s narrow.”

I want to put a container house, but I also want to create a test range for my weapons.

Among the weapons I have, the one with the longest range that I can use individually is…

“I need a depth of four kilometers?”

Gourai X. The effective firing range of the Sniper Rifle is about 3,800 meters, the highest-end Sniper Rifle among the weapons that can be operated individually at the time. This is a weapon that I personally own, and it’s one of the few weapons for which I had obtained permission to possess and use.

The military supplies are mass-produced models of the Gourai X. The type with a range of 3,500 meters.

“Well, I’ll expand it as much as I can.”

When I pour Magical Power into the Magic Core I’m holding, the room starts to expand rapidly. However, it’s completely dark except for the area around the entrance because there are no lanterns.

Instead of a room, a vast, dark space was created. Since it’s too dark, I take out a large lighting device and turn it on.

“Heave-ho.”

And because it’s become wider, I take out a container house from the Spatial Storage.

“Now, what should I do?”

A shooting range, a dismantling area, and a meat aging area are the minimum necessities. A bathroom and a sauna too. Should I make a pool? What else do I need… I’ll prepare treatment equipment near the entrance just in case.

Should I make a Support Drone first? It’ll clean up and stuff.

“I’d prefer an Android.”

I have several Androids sleeping in the Spatial Storage, but I don’t have the mother computer to control them.
Unlike Support Drones, Androids can manipulate language and move like humans. They can think for themselves, and their appearance is almost identical to humans. However, unfortunately, their human form lacks the necessary capacity, requiring a control unit connected to a Mother Computer.
It’s the same system as a radio-controlled car.
Even something the size of an escape pod is equipped with one, but that’s still a vehicle in the fifty-meter class. As expected, that size won’t fit through the entrance of my Spatial Storage… Though with my increased Magical Power, it might fit now.
Even Vice Admiral couldn’t get his hands on a Mother Computer alone, and I never even thought about transferring my belongings when I reincarnated… Ah, you idiot, Ore!!

As if on cue, I used the machine 3D printer to create parts for a Support Drone and assembled one. A bucket with a monitor about my waist height is running around energetically.
I plan to make a power generator that runs on a Magic Core later, so I made this one electric and rechargeable.

“Alright, First Unit, begin production of the Second Unit and onwards.”
“!”

Following my instructions, it skillfully assembles the prepared parts. Being a machine, it assembles them faster than I can.
For now, I’ll have it create up to the Fourth Support Drone.
Before the Support Drones are completed, I’ll start creating the power generator and charging device for them.

“Well, it’s just putting in the numbers, adding materials, and waiting.”

This isn’t the one I used to create the Drones, but a 3D printer for large equipment. It’s for making big things, so it’s even bigger. About the size of a two-story house.
It’s excellent at creating anything from buildings to heavy machinery if it’s programmed. I guess the only things it can’t make are heavy weapons, things that violate some military laws, and Magic Cores.
The clanging and banging noises are quite loud, which is a bit annoying, but it’s also proof that it’s working.
The system displays assembly diagrams on the monitor when the parts are completed. However, since the Support Drones do everything, there’s not much for me to do myself.
However, the generator part that is the core of the power generator can only be made by me. This part is the job of the Magic Core. Moreover, since it’s for machinery, it needs to be made from a large Magic Core, not one from a small Monster like the one I used when I created this space, but from a large Monster and also of high purity.

“…There are plenty of resources, but naturally, there’s not much rare Magical Iron.”

Even the greedy Vice Admiral couldn’t prepare a large number of rare Magical Iron or rare earth elements, unlike regular resources. Well, there’s still more than enough for me to use personally.
I don’t need that much to build buildings and machines, but considering making Magic Items in the future, I want to be able to prepare them myself.

“I might have to look for substitutes.”

It’s best to have items with exactly the same components, but that’s rarely the case. There are many cases where items with similar characteristics can be used as substitutes, even if the components themselves are different.
In the vastness of space, it wasn’t uncommon to find metals that “can only be mined on Mount △△ on Planet ×× in the ○○ System.” However, conversely, the universe is too vast. There were quite a few things with the same characteristics, even if they weren’t metals with the same composition, so the idea of substitutes and alternatives was quite widespread.

“Oh, as expected, that was fast.”

The Support Drones are assembled, so I’ll put batteries in each of them.

” ” ” ! ” ” “

The ‘!’ mark on the monitors. It seems they all started up without any problems.

“First to Third Units, take out the parts for the power generator and prepare them for easy assembly. Third Unit, replenish materials when they run out. Fourth Unit, prepare the bathhouse.”

The bath in the container house is too small. Since we’re here, let’s take a big bath.

“Ah, I hadn’t taken it out yet.”

The Fourth Unit’s monitor showed a ‘?’. I set up the container bathhouse for outdoor activities and infuse the Magic Core with Magical Power for hot water and purification functions.
The Fourth Unit immediately enters the container bathhouse and sets up various things.

“Ah, sorry. One person’s worth was fine.”

The Fourth Unit was lining up all the towels it had. You don’t need that many. Sorry, please don’t put an ‘angry’ mark on the monitor.

“Cladfield-kun, over here.”
“Yes?”

Lady Martha?

“Is something the matter?”
“I was really wondering whether I should confirm this or warn you about it.”
“What is it?”
“Well, I am fully aware that you are young and energetic.”
“Huh?”

Just as I was thinking that, she grabbed my face with all her might.

“Isn’t this hair quality cheating? It’s been especially beautiful lately, ah! My fingers slide through it so easily! What are you using!?”

Crap! I accidentally used shampoo and conditioner because I was going to take a bath!

“Even if it’s a hunter’s secret medicine, you’re not allowed to monopolize it!?”
“It hurts! I’ll give it to you! I’ll take it out!”

W-what kind of Monster material is good for hair!? How am I supposed to deceive her!?
