“Wait!”
Owen shouted, extending his left hand in front of me to cut off my words.
Well, I figured he’d react like this.
“Sorry, but… could you let me have that…?”
“Owen.”
“Please! I desperately need this! I’ll do anything for it! So!”
Jumping off his seat, Owen prostrated himself on the floor, begging.
I wonder how many times I’ve seen Owen groveling like this since our first encounter. I’m getting tired of it.
“Don’t be absurd. That ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius’ belongs to Lord Orland.”
“But, didn’t Lord Orland say so himself? That His Majesty the King instructed that ‘the disposal of the treasure is entrusted to Harold and Owen’!”
“That’s…”
“Then! That means I can decide how to use it, right!”
Geez, for an idiot, he’s surprisingly quick on the uptake.
Though, he’s still as thoughtless as ever.
“Don’t be ridiculous. If you’re the one deciding how to use it, that means you have to pay Lord Orland the equivalent value. Can you do that?”
“Th-that’s…”
“Impossible, right? Just because you became the Fourth Prince doesn’t mean you have unlimited access to funds. And let me tell you, don’t think you can cover the cost with something like that.”
“Ugh…”
I’m aware that I’m throwing out some harsh words, but this guy still doesn’t understand what it means to be a prince… or rather, what he can and can’t do.
If I don’t make him understand that properly, there’s a risk he’ll be used by King Aival and the others.
After all, Owen is the protagonist of “EnHaza.”
“In the first place, what are you going to use this for…? Actually, never mind.”
“What did you say!? What do you mean by ‘never mind’!”
“It means exactly what it sounds like. I don’t know what you’re planning, but since you can’t get your hands on it anyway, there’s no point in knowing.”
“Now, now, you two, calm down. Prince Owen seems to have a strong attachment to this treasure, but as Prince Harold said, we can’t just give it away for free. So, how about we make it a prize at the Casino, and then he can try to obtain it that way?”
Well, that’s reasonable.
The owner of the ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius’ is Baron Orlando, and he should have the final say on how to handle it.
Besides, if it’s a prize, there’s a chance Owen could get his hands on it.
The question is whether he can earn enough Coins to do so. No way, right?
Even so.
“It’s also true that His Majesty the King has entrusted us with deciding how to handle the ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius.’ Given what it is, I can’t give you an immediate answer, so would you mind giving us some time?”
“Of course. However, until then, please keep this treasure confidential.”
“Understood.”
It doesn’t seem like I’ll be talking to Baron Orlando any further today.
I’ll come back another day.
“Come on, let’s go.”
“………………….”
I forcibly pulled Owen, who was prostrating, to his feet, and we left the VIP Room… but
“…I’m disappointed in you, big brother.”
“What are you talking about?”
I frowned and replied to Owen, who was muttering insults while looking down.
“It’s obvious, isn’t it! Do you know how many people could be saved with that thing!”
“What, were you planning to use the ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius’ to help people or something?”
“N-not something that grand, but…”
Seriously, why is he getting shy after starting this himself?
“Well… as you know, big brother, I’m from the slums, and life and death are taken more lightly there than anywhere else.”
Owen scratched his head and began to speak haltingly.
In short, the residents of the slums don’t have money for treatment, and it’s not uncommon for them to die from injuries or illnesses. I knew that already, though.
In fact, Owen apparently lost an acquaintance when he was young and cursed his own powerlessness.
That’s why Owen decided to become stronger, and before he knew it, he had risen to a considerable position in the slums, despite still being only sixteen years old.
“…So, if we had the ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius,’ the people in the slums wouldn’t have to feel so frustrated.”
“I see.”
I replied in a tone that was too light for the heavy atmosphere.
“Then, all the more reason why I can’t give you the ‘Sacred Water Jar Aquarius.'”
“What!? Why!”
“You wouldn’t understand even if I explained it. Anyway, I’m against it.”
“Wai-! Big brother!”
Leaving Owen shouting behind, I left the Casino with Sandra and the others.
