This is the first of three chapters!
■ From the Perspective of Sigurd of Chevalier
“Good grief… are they planning to push all the troublesome stuff onto me?”
Before me, Sigurd of Chevalier, stood the remnants of the Norse Empire’s forces, routed by my close friend and Crown Prince of the small Dehauvalz Kingdom on the western edge of Brint Island, Sawelin Wel Dehauvalz. I shook my head.
Sawelin is a genius when it comes to war, but his one flaw is that after scattering enemies in such a flamboyant manner, he leaves all the cleanup to me.
“Well, unless we deal with all these guys, it’ll be a pain later on.”
I brandished my beloved sword, Balmung, spurred my horse as a signal, and shouted.
“Now, let the mop-up begin! Offer all the Norsemen as a blood sacrifice!”
I spurred my horse and charged into the Norse army.
Even the mighty Norse Empire army, which dominates the entire Brint Island, can be defeated by mere humans like us now that Sawelin’s strategy has completely broken them. We felled Norse soldiers one after another, and then…
“We did it! It’s our victory!”
“Ooooooooooh!”
I raised Balmung high and let out a victory cry.

“General Sigurd, excuse me!”
A soldier rushed into my tent in a flustered manner while I was dealing with the aftermath of the battle against the Norse army.
“What is it?”
“Y-yes. Actually…”
According to the soldier, he and the other soldiers were patrolling to see if there were any remnants of the Norse army when they discovered supplies that the enemy had abandoned.
However.
“A woman in a cage?”
“Yes… we believe she’s a slave who was brought along for the Norse soldiers’ comfort.”
“Hmm…”
Soldiers are driven to extreme states in war, where life and death are separated, and they experience considerable anxiety and tension.
If that explodes, the soldiers will become uncontrollable, and at worst, riots and looting will occur.
Therefore, it is common practice to provide soldiers with alcohol and women to relieve their stress so that they do not resort to such behavior.
Even so.
“…How low can you get, banning slavery yourselves?”
That’s right… the Norse Empire does not recognize slavery.
Nevertheless, they resort to such things just because it’s war, which shows how rotten the Empire has become.
If the Empire had been even a little decent, Dehauvalz would not have raised the flag of rebellion.
“I understand. First, take me to the woman who was captured.”
“Yes, sir!”
I was led by the soldier to meet the woman who was said to be held in the cage.
There, I saw…
“…………………”
A beautiful girl with platinum blonde hair and striking crimson eyes was sitting in the corner of the cage, hugging her knees.
“General Sigurd?”
“…Ah, y-yes, that’s right.”
I was captivated by the girl’s beauty, and the soldier’s voice brought me back to my senses.
Damn, I can’t be like those Norsemen.
“Hey, release her immediately and tend to her wounds.”
I instructed the soldier to open the cage door, but…
“…Don’t open it.”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
I tilted my head, seeing that the girl refused to leave the cage.
“I’m not allowed to leave here. Those people told me so.”
They probably ordered her not to escape.
Her somewhat frightened appearance, the chains on her feet, and the scars visible here and there all suggest that.
“…It’s okay. The ones who gave you those orders are gone, and we won’t ask that of you. So… come on.”
I tried to smile as much as possible and slowly reached out my hand.
However, I will give special training to the subordinates who showed strange reactions to me later.
“But…”
“Come now.”
I reached out my hand further to the girl, who was still hesitant.
She was wondering what to do, but she tentatively took my hand.
“Thank you for taking my hand. That’s very brave.”
“Ah…”
When I stroked her beautiful hair, the girl slightly relaxed her mouth.
Her cuteness made even me smile.
“It must have been hard for you. I’ll prepare a meal, so let’s eat together.”
“Ah… y-yes…”
–This was my encounter with the girl… Fafnir, and the beginning of the tragedy.
