Here’s the last of the extra chapters!
■Sigurd of Chevalier’s Perspective
“This is the critical moment! Hold your ground!”
The assault on Stangrad Castle had finally begun, and the forces I led were attacking the south gate.
However, as expected of the Empire’s greatest fortress, we were forced into a back-and-forth battle.
“Sig! Leave it to me!”
“Ah! Hey!”
Fal single-handedly cut down the Norse soldiers and clung to the castle walls.
It seemed she was planning to use her agility to capture the castle walls, as usual.
“Damn it! You guys, support Fal!”
I shouted, trying to rush to Fal’s side faster than anyone else.
However, the Norse soldiers wouldn’t overlook me, their commander, and they attacked all at once, preventing me from advancing.
In this situation, all I could do was pray for Fal’s safety.
Then.
“Fafnir. Though created by the same God (Placeholder) as us and being our kin, to forget your original role (…………) and side with Dehauvalz… how lamentable.”
“? What is that man saying…?”
I focused on a man on the castle walls, speaking grandly and shaking his head.
From the way he spoke, it seemed he knew Fal…
“…It can’t be helped. I, Laertes Herzogknut Norse, shall remind you of your true role.”
“!? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!?”
The moment the man on the castle walls raised his hands, Fal screamed.
Unable to understand what was happening, I was momentarily stunned.
“!? Fal! Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!”
Unable to stay put, I tried to scatter the Norse soldiers, but I was outnumbered. I couldn’t get close.
At that moment.
“Aaaaaaaah… aaaaah… a… a…”
Fal’s screams grew fainter and fainter, and then.
“What… is that…?”
My beloved woman had transformed into a giant, crimson dragon.
“Gooooooooooooaaaaaaaah!”
“!?!”
The crimson dragon roared, and its overwhelming presence, its intimidating aura, and the terror it inspired froze everyone in Dehauvalz, including me, rendering us unable to move.
“Now… I will abandon this place and return to my castle, so please fulfill your role.”
“!? Wait…!?”
“Gooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
I was the first to regain my senses and reached out to the man who was trying to leave, but before I could, the crimson dragon attacked the Dehauvalz army.
“Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!?”
“R-run away!”
“H-hey!?”
Overwhelmed by terror, the soldiers of Dehauvalz scattered in all directions. Of course, so did the Norse soldiers.
However, the crimson dragon captured the soldiers one after another with its massive hands and mercilessly devoured them.
“No way… this can’t be happening…?”
I still couldn’t believe that this crimson dragon was Fal, and I stood there alone amidst the soldiers fleeing in panic.
And… the crimson dragon… Fal, was in front of me.
“Gooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
It unleashed a deafening roar, and the claws of the crimson dragon’s foreleg were about to strike me, who was still frozen in place.
“…G… Goo…”
For some reason, the dragon stopped moving.
『…G… Sig…』
“!? Fal!?”
A familiar voice, appealing directly to my heart, not my ears.
There was no mistaking it… it was Fal.
“Fal! Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!”
『Ah…! Sig! Sig!』
Fal called out repeatedly in a trembling voice.
I looked around, seeking her.
That’s right. She wasn’t the dragon in front of me, but somewhere else…
But that hope was quickly betrayed.
『Listen, Sig… it seems I was actually an enemy standing in your way.』
“………………….Huh?”
Unable to understand Fal’s words, I let out a dazed sound.
『It’s true… I was created by God (Placeholder) and given the role of being killed by you.』
“What’s that supposed to mean! Why would I have to do something like that to you! And what’s with this role!”
『I’m sorry…? I guess I shouldn’t have left that cage back then…』
Fal apologized, sobbing.
But there was no way I could accept that. Fal was Fal, and when I patted her head, she would smile happily, always by my side, and so reliable…!
『So, you see? I want you to end me. That way, I can be with you forever.』
“That makes no sense! What does ‘end me’ even mean! Are you telling me to kill you!?”
『………………….Yes.』
“Don’t screw with meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”
I screamed at the crimson dragon standing still.
Why did I have to kill the woman I loved! Why wouldn’t anyone let me save the woman I loved!
『Please… it’s the only way I can be saved (………).』
“What!? …A… Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah…”
The resistance of cutting through flesh, transmitted to my hand through my beloved sword, Balmung.
The crimson dragon’s foreleg, placed on my hand, had pierced through its torso.
『Heh… ehehe… Sig… I love you…』
With those words, the crimson dragon spat out a large amount of blood, staining my body red.
All I could do was break down and cry.
◇
A month later, the then-Emperor Laertes surrendered unconditionally, and the Norse Empire was destroyed.
I was granted the title of Duke as the hero who had slain the crimson dragon, and I was even to marry Princess Rune, Sawelin’s younger sister.
Of course, this was partly because my close friend Sawelin trusted me, but more than anything, it was because they wanted to incorporate a hero strong enough to slay a dragon into the royal family. How contradictory.
However, as a reward for my achievements, I demanded to tear Laertes apart with my own hands, but Sawelin stubbornly refused.
Apparently, the condition for Laertes’ unconditional surrender was the guarantee of his own life.
I didn’t care about such things, but I respected Sawelin’s desire to avoid further bloodshed and reluctantly accepted.
However, in order to inflict the greatest possible humiliation on Laertes, I branded him on the back, just like Fal, and exposed him in front of the Norse people.
…Ah, come to think of it, it seems that by bathing in Fal’s blood, I gained her dragon power.
Thanks to that, I gained strength that no ordinary person could imagine, and even my wife, Princess Rune, was afraid of me.
The reason was simple. When the dragon power was activated, my eyes turned blood-red.
Just like Fal’s eyes.
Even Sawelin found it creepy, but I was actually happy about it.
Because, right? Having crimson eyes meant that Fal was definitely inside me.
Just like she had told me back then.
“Haha… I guess there’s no need to come all the way here, since you and I are together forever.”
I smiled self-deprecatingly in front of a small grave in the most scenic spot in the territory.
The only woman I loved in this world.
–Thinking of her, my eyes are dyed crimson today as well.
