“Sorry to keep you waiting… Lord Hal?”
“…………………”
Without even looking at Sandra, who had returned, I was simply dumbfounded.
Somehow, my mind couldn’t catch up.
Presumably, King Aival gave Cardis such an order because Samantha, his mistress and Wilfred’s mother, had asked him to do so behind the scenes.
However, Samantha has never shown any maternal affection towards Wilfred, and even in “EnHaza,” there are depictions of Wilfred craving his mother’s love.
So, why would she do such a thing?
“Lord Hal!”
“Eh!? Hyaa!?”
Sandra, stretching as far as she could, shouted in my ear, and I inadvertently let out a strange noise and jumped.
“What were you thinking about, Lord Hal? …You seemed absent-minded even when I called out to you.”
Oh no, Sandra is puffing out her cheeks and getting angry.
But even this expression of hers is cute…
“M-My apologies. Actually…”
I told her what I had just heard: that Wilfred had joined Cardis’s faction, and that I was instructed… no, ordered to pay attention to that guy as well.
“…What is His Majesty thinking?”
“I don’t know. Even for Brother Cardis, adding the ‘Tainted Prince’ to his faction is a risk. Yet, Brother seemed somewhat amused.”
Indeed… Cardis’s reaction, despite being suddenly entrusted with Wilfred by King Aival, didn’t show any aversion towards Wilfred.
In other words, he welcomes Wilfred to some extent.
However, that’s probably because Cardis made a deal with King Aival to receive some kind of benefit in exchange for accepting Wilfred.
Certainly, in “EnHaza,” he eventually reconciles with the protagonist, but until then, it’s undeniable that he didn’t think well of Wilfred. That’s true both in the game and here.
“…How do you intend to associate with Prince Wilfred, Lord Hal?”
Sandra peers up at my face, as if trying to gauge my expression.
Hmm… as for how to associate with him, I’ve decided not to get involved with the protagonists in order to avoid the bad ending.
Therefore.
“Well… actually, I don’t intend to associate with Wilfred from the start, so at most, we’ll just see each other at royal events, I suppose?”
I can’t think of any other opportunities to come into contact with Wilfred.
Even within the Royal Palace, unlike me, who lives in the main palace, that guy lives in the detached palace, so I don’t think we’ll even have the chance to pass each other.
“In any case, considering what’s happened so far, he probably dislikes me as well, and if I don’t actively try to meet him, we’ll probably just be like air to each other.”
“I see…”
Hearing my answer, Sandra sighs in relief.
It seems she has some thoughts about me getting involved with Wilfred.
The reason for that is probably related to the exchange with Wilfred after the Dance.
“Sandra, shall we get some fresh air outside?”
“Yes.”
Feeling somehow uneasy, I made up my mind, took her hand, and headed to the balcony.
Imagining the worst possible answer.
Or rather, I probably am jealous of Wilfred.
Of the possibility that Sandra, before she was engaged to me, might have been romantically involved with Wilfred.
And then.
“S-So… what kind of relationship do you have with Wilfred…?”
I asked. I ended up asking.
If I were to consider the happiness of my ultimate favorite, maybe I should ask King Aival to cancel the engagement and be satisfied with just being a boyfriend in the background within my imagination.
But, having seen so many different sides of her that I couldn’t know at all in “EnHaza,” there’s no way I can let her go, let alone cancel the engagement. I can’t stand it.
If that’s the case… even if it hurts, even if it’s a past I don’t want to know, I want to know.
In order to be by her side even beyond the main story of “Engage Hazard.”
Then.
“Fufu…”
For some reason, Sandra gave a wry smile.
“E-Er, um…”
“I’m sorry. Well… as expected, even if you remembered, you wouldn’t understand, would you, Lord Hal?”
Huh? I don’t understand…? Could it be that I’m also involved in something?
Or rather, what does it mean to not understand even if I remember?
“Well then, it will be a bit long, but please bear with me. About that happy and foolish day with you, me, and that guy… Wilfred.”
