Rogue Prince – Chapter 312

Only 4 days left until the release of Volume 2 of “The Incompetent Rascal Prince Wants to Survive”!

Please be sure to check out the afterword!!!
“Hey, what’s wrong? You don’t look so good.”

The day after watching Despina’s match, Obrul, who came to bring me food after I returned to my cell, asked with concern.
However, he seemed to know the reason, and it seemed to be just to comfort me.

“…I’m fine. It’s just a coincidence (・・・・).”
“O-oh. I see…”

Yes, a coincidence (・・・・)… no, that’s not it. This is inevitable (・・).
But it’s not like I’m losing my composure because I’m worried about the match with Despina.

“Well, it would be pointless if you got taken out by another gladiator before fighting Despina. Just be careful.”
“Yeah.”

Obrul placed the meal on the floor and left the cell.
I broke the bread in half and gave it to Caz.

“Munch… but as that guy said, are you really okay?”
“Of course. It’s true that I was lacking focus.”

I stroked Caz’s head as she munched on the bread and shrugged my shoulders as I answered.
It was also true that I was targeted because I was losing my tension thinking about the match with Despina, and I almost got hit by an attack, and after that, I was almost cornered.

But more than that, I was able to find it.
A way to defeat Despina… a way to shut out all of her attacks.

“Caz, there might be some close calls in the matches from tomorrow onwards, just like today, but trust me. From now on, I’ll show you that I can defend against every attack.”
“O-okay…”

Caz nodded, but her expression still looked uneasy.

“What’s wrong? Can’t you trust your partner?”
“N-no! I always trust Hal!”
“That’s right.”

When I said that in a slightly teasing tone, Caz denied it loudly with great vigor.
Seriously… she’s still such a cute partner.

“That’s why, well, just watch. By the time the match with Despina is over, I should be even stronger.”

Or rather, if I don’t, I might die.
Then, I have no choice but to do it.

Believing in the one possibility that I managed to grasp by chance in today’s match, I clenched my fist.

“Guh…!”
“Tch! I was so close!”

As I barely dodged a sharp thrust, the gladiator I was fighting clicked his tongue.
Unlike yesterday, this gladiator’s skill is quite high. I’m starting to doubt if he’s really a Mob.

However, this is the perfect opportunity to try out the clue I managed to find. More importantly, if I were to be defeated by a gladiator of this level, it would be impossible to defeat Despina.

“Oh, oh, oh! Is that guy finally going to get taken down?”
“I bet on you! Don’t you dare let him touch you!”

The spectators were egging on our match in an amusing way.
I want to say that they’re taking it easy, but since they’re here as customers, the ones I should complain to aren’t them.

If I’m going to complain, it should be to the people who are running this Colosseum and the woman who threw me in here.

“No! That’s not it!”

I narrowly dodged the gladiator’s continuous thrusts, and I gnashed my teeth.
What I found yesterday wasn’t this. If it’s this, I can just defend normally.

I need to watch the opponent’s movements more closely and find it.
The next step (・・・) in my defense.

“Uooooooooooooooooooooooo!”

Perhaps because my opponent thought he was close to hitting me with his last attack, the gladiator brandished his sword and charged. It seems he saw this as his chance to win.
I watched it until the very last moment and defended at the last possible second.

As I repeated this many times.

“Ah…”

The same feeling as yesterday.
I seem to have gotten a little closer again.

If I repeat this, someday… someday, I’ll surely be able to not only defend against all of Despina’s attacks, but also shut out Sandra’s attacks.
Feeling such a premonition intensely, I defended, dodged, and parried the gladiator’s attacks.

And then.

“That’s it! Time’s up!”
“Damn it!”

When the referee declared the end of the match after one hour, the time limit, the gladiator shouted loudly in frustration.
On the other hand, I grasped another foothold to become stronger and looked up at the sky with satisfaction.
