“Ugh, this is rough.”
A week has passed since my safe return from the Romania Empire.
In my office at the Royal Palace, I was glaring at the mountain of documents that had piled up.
Apparently, no one bothered to take care of my duties as the Third Prince while I was away.
Especially…
“Prince Harold, is something the matter?”
“…No, I was just thinking that maybe someone could have taken care of some of this. Not naming any names, though.”
I pointed at the mountain of documents and told Monica, who was cleaning the room, with as much sarcasm as I could muster.
I think my Maid could have done that much for me.
“Eh? Should I have thrown them away?”
“Why would you do that!?”
Monica tilted her head, putting a finger to her lips, and said such a thing.
Oh, I know. I know she’s pretending to be clueless.
“…Never mind. I’m going to the Courtyard for a little break.”
“Have a good time.”
I left the office, seeing Monica off.
I usually live in the Dormitory at the Royal Academy, but I was staying at the Royal Palace to clear the backlog of work.
Sandra, upon learning this, activated [Dragon’s Favor], dyeing her eyes blood-red and trying to stop me with all her might, but Monica, thinking it would be bad to delay the work, unusually persuaded her.
I tilted my head so far I almost snapped it off at the time, wondering what wind had blown her to not pour oil on the fire as she usually does.
“Oh?”
When I arrived at the Courtyard, I saw the Second Prince, Raphael, looking downcast.
I had a bad feeling. I turned to leave without saying a word… but.
“Oops.”
Unluckily, I bumped into the First Prince, Cardis.
“Harold, are you done with your work?”
“N-no, I just came for a little break…”
As I said that, I glanced at Raphael.
In short, I was implying that I was trying to escape because he was there.
“…Leave him be. He was recently rejected by Lady Liliana.”
“Rejected?”
Huh? Isn’t Liliana ignoring him an everyday occurrence?
Raphael isn’t the type to get depressed over something like that; I thought he was more of a scheming character.
“When I found out about it, even I hesitated to speak to him. After all, instead of being brushed off as usual, she didn’t even make eye contact when he offered her Meat, completely ignoring him.”
“Ouch…”
That’s certainly unusual for Liliana… or rather, impossible.
Liliana Abbott, the ‘Carnivore’ protagonist of Galhaza, who is always hungry for Meat.
“Um… just to be sure, Brother Cardis, are you and Liliana…”
“I’m fine. She greeted me with the best smile yesterday when I brought her Meat. I’m planning to go see her again today.”
“I see…”
It’s good to hear that Liliana’s feeding is progressing smoothly, but at this point, shouldn’t she just marry Meat? That Liliana.
Well, anyway.
“Then, I’ll get back to work.”
“Yes. I should be going to her soon as well.”
Cardis behaved as if it were the most natural thing in the world, even though he hadn’t made any specific plans.
Am I imagining the air of melancholy, dripping with Meat juice, around his back? It must be my imagination.
But.
“…Maybe I should at least hear him out once.”
Muttering that to myself, I returned to the office.
◇
“Huh? I ignored Prince Raphael…?”
The next day during lunch break, I treated Liliana to a mountain of Meat and asked her about Raphael, and that was the reaction I got.
At least from Liliana’s demeanor, she didn’t seem to have any strange feelings towards Raphael.
“N-no, I heard from Brother Cardis that something had happened between the two of you recently. So…”
“I wonder. Everything’s the same as usual… oh, come to think of it.”
Liliana tilted her head, then clapped her hands as if she had remembered something.
“Prince Raphael hasn’t been bringing me Meat lately!”
“I-is that so…”
He probably knows he’ll be ignored, so Raphael doesn’t try to talk to her.
In other words, he’s afraid of being ignored and hurt again. That must be it.
However, at least she doesn’t seem to be ignoring Raphael.
Or rather, the conversation is slightly off…
“I see, that helps.”
“No, no! I can only be grateful to Hal-san for giving me so much Meat!”
I stood up and left the cafeteria.
“…What do you think?”
“She doesn’t seem to be lying. In that case, shouldn’t we confirm whether Prince Cardis’s story is correct?”
“Yeah…”
I nodded at Sandra’s answer.
In the first place, I only heard about this incident secondhand from Cardis.
Then, it would be better to hear from the people involved.
After school, I took Sandra and Monica to the second-year classroom where Raphael was.
