Rogue Prince – Chapter 80

“I apologize for intruding until this late,”

Having finished dinner with Sandra and the rest of the Chevalier family, I bowed deeply at the entrance.
The waning moon shone brightly in the night sky, and it was a bit chilly outside.

Even so…

“…………………”

They were like that during dinner too, but Duke Chevalier and Cedric have been giving me meaningful looks the whole time… It’s unbearable.

“Prince Harold, please don’t apologize. You are already our son, aren’t you, dear?”
“Mumu!? U, um…”

Madam Norma directed the conversation towards him, and Duke Chevalier reluctantly nodded with an indescribable expression. As expected, he still seems to have reservations about my engagement with Sandra.
However, that’s not because I’m the ‘Incompetent Rascal Prince,’ but simply because he’s a father who doesn’t want to lose his daughter.

That much is clear from the fact that I don’t feel any contempt in the way he looks at me.
If that’s the case, then I’ll just have to accept the jealousy of a father who dotes on his daughter. I don’t want to, though. I really don’t want to.

“Lord Hal. Let’s meet again at the Royal Palace tomorrow.”
“Yes. See you again at the Royal Palace tomorrow.”

Sandra and I nodded at each other with determination.
If King Aival is thinking of tearing us apart and trying to unite Wilfred with my favorite fiancée, then we’ll just have to fight.

“Well then, I’ll be going now… Wapu!?”

Just as I was about to get into the carriage, Madam Norma hugged me tightly.
W, well… Sandra would definitely get mad if she heard this, but Madam Norma is much bigger than Sandra in many ways. She’s overwhelmingly so. No heroine in EnHaza can match her.

So, my face is currently buried in Madam Norma’s chest, yes.

“M, Madam Norma…”
“Prince Harold… my dear son. This is your home too, so please come back anytime, okay? And show me that you’re doing well, okay?”
“Ah…”

Madam Norma’s maternal kindness and warmth almost brought tears to my eyes again.
But… I’m not going to cry anymore.

As long as I’m with Sandra, this warmth will always be mine.
I… have obtained this warmth.

“Yes, definitely. That… Mother-in-law.”
“Ufufu, promise?”

She gently stroked my hair, and I couldn’t help but smile.
But, I have to go back now.

“Everyone! Well then, goodbye! I’ll come again!”
“Yes!”
“We’ll be waiting!”

Leaving behind a lingering feeling, I parted from Madam Norma… my Mother-in-law, and left the Chevalier Estate as everyone saw me off.

“Oh? Brother, were you out?”

As soon as I returned to the Royal Palace, I ran into Wilfred of all people.
Of course, Marion is next to him as well.

“Ah… perhaps, to my sister-in-law’s place?”
“That’s none of your business.”

Thinking that I couldn’t deal with him any longer, I spat out those words and tried to ignore them and head to my room… but.

“Speaking of which, I wanted to ask you something. What do you think of my fiancée… Sandra?”
“Brother?”

That’s right… I’ve wanted to know for a while now.
Why did this guy do something like that to Sandra when she was little?

It was an incident that happened eight years ago, and Wilfred was only six years old back then, so he might not remember.
But, if he still remembers it now, and still calls Sandra ‘sister-in-law’ and tries to get close to her, I’d wonder what face he has to show, and I’d start to get suspicious.

Perhaps Wilfred knows about King Aival’s intentions.

“What do I think…? She’s your fiancée, nothing more, nothing less…”

Wilfred wore a puzzled expression and exchanged glances with Marion.
From their expressions, it doesn’t seem like they know anything about King Aival’s intentions, and in the first place, it seems like he doesn’t even remember what happened eight years ago.

…Am I just overthinking it?

“Sorry for asking something strange. See ya.”

I parted ways with Wilfred and the others, who were tilting their heads, and finally returned to my room.

Then.

“…Hal, did you notice? That idiot was looking at your back with a smirk on his face.”
“Caz?”

Caz said that with a frown as soon as I opened the door.
In other words, that means…

“Prince Harold. It’s possible that Wilfred harbors ill feelings towards Young Lady. There might be a reason for what he did when he was young.”
“Monica…”

Originally, she was Sandra’s Maid and like an older sister to her.
Naturally, she probably heard about the incident eight years ago from Sandra.

“If that’s the case, then this makes it clear. That guy is definitely an enemy to us, and someone we absolutely have to eliminate.”

When I regained my memories of my previous life… as Haru Tachibana, I made a decision.
To never, ever break off the engagement with my favorite fiancée, who wasn’t even a heroine, just a Mob with only one still image.

And… to not get involved with the protagonist Wilfred or the other heroines.

But, now that I know there’s a possibility that my Sandra is in danger, I’ll have to retract my second decision.
Even if I have to fight as a stepping stone for the protagonist, like in EnHaza, I’ll fight.

And, I’ll teach them.

–Even a stepping stone has fangs.
