Rogue Prince – Chapter 98

I have a very important request!
Please read until the afterword!
“Silence! We shall now commence the trial regarding the attempted poisoning of His Majesty the King!”

Three days have passed since I, Harold, revealed the name of the culprit behind the recent incident to King Salomon.
The knights apprehended Lisette as a suspect, and an exceptionally swift trial was arranged.

Over these three days, the Royal Knights were bustling with activity, conducting interrogations and investigating the situation in preparation for the trial.
Of course, this included not only the Knight Commander but also those around Queen Paula.

As for me, I’m sitting all alone in the accuser’s seat.
Unfortunately, Sandra and Monica were not allowed to be present.

And on the opposite side sits Lisette, the suspect in this incident, glaring at me with a gaze that could kill.

Well, I’ve earned quite a bit of resentment this time.
Especially from Eline, who called me “inhuman” and a “traitor.” To top it off, she said, “I was a fool to trust the ‘Incompetent Rascal Prince’,” which was quite harsh.

But too bad for her.
Now that the trial has begun, unless the real culprit appears, it’s almost certain that Lisette will be found guilty.

King Salomon, seated on the throne, is watching the proceedings with his face hidden behind a veil, likely with a grim expression.
In contrast, Queen Paula next to him seems to be enjoying herself.

By the way, Jean’s suspension has been lifted for this trial, and he’s also here as an observer.
Since this trial is about the very thing that caused his suspension, it would be strange if he weren’t here.

“Now then, accuser Prince Harold Wel Dehauvalz, please explain the circumstances and reasons that led to this accusation.”
“Yes.”

I stood at the witness stand and explained in detail to the judge how Lisette was the culprit.
Thankfully, the knights had prepared plenty of evidence to support her guilt. All fabricated, of course.

“Next, defendant Princess Lisette Josephine de Capetien, do you have any objections to Prince Harold’s testimony?”
“Yes, I have many.”

Naturally, she wouldn’t silently accept a false charge.
If she did, even as the First Princess, she wouldn’t escape execution.

“In the first place, everything that Prince Harold… no, everything that the ‘Incompetent Rascal Prince’ has said is a complete fabrication. What possible benefit would I have from doing such a thing?”
“Princess Lisette, that does not prove your innocence. We need concrete evidence…”
“If it’s evidence you want… no, if it’s a witness, I am here! I have been by my sister’s side the entire time!”
“Silence!”

The usually timid Eline raised her voice from the audience seats with a desperate look.
However, the judge quickly silenced her.

More than that, it was Queen Paula, watching the trial next to King Salomon, who seemed surprised by Eline’s actions.
She probably never expected her own daughter to defend Lisette, the daughter of a woman she despises.

But Eline isn’t the only one disrupting the trial.

“Please wait. I, Alexandra of Chevalier, can also testify that Princess Lisette is not the culprit. Furthermore, I have prepared evidence… no, a witness.”
“Guah!?”

Appearing in full armor and carrying Balmung, the treasured sword passed down through the Chevalier family, was my beloved fiancée, Sandra.
Next to her, Monica was dragging a Chamberlain bound with rope.

“Earlier, Lord Hal, my fiancé, testified that ‘poison was found in Princess Lisette’s room.'”
“Y-yes…”
“This man is the one who trespassed into Princess Lisette’s room and planted the poison in her drawer. Isn’t that right?”
“H-hii!?”

The Chamberlain’s face twisted as he stared at Sandra, who was smirking.
It seems he had been subjected to something traumatically awful before coming here.

“Answer quickly.”
“Y-yes! I, in my audacity, snuck into Princess Lisette’s room and planted the poison as evidence!”

It was obvious that he was testifying under duress, but no one could speak in this bizarre situation.
They could only watch with bated breath.

“Next, was planting the poison in Princess Lisette’s room your sole act?”
“N-no, it wasn’t! I was ordered to do such a thing!”

The Chamberlain fervently pleaded with an almost tearful expression.
Now… I wonder what kind of expression Queen Paula, the owner of that Chamberlain, is making?

“………………….”

…Hmph, she’s keeping a cool face.
She probably thinks she can just discard him, no matter what he says.

Well, her sharp gaze towards Sandra isn’t completely hidden, though.

But she must be surprised inside.
After all, Queen Paula should have instructed him to plant the poison in my room, but the Chamberlain testified that he planted it in Lisette’s room.

“By the way, Sandra, who exactly is that man?”
“Fufu… he is Queen Paula’s Chamberlain.”
“What!?”
“………………….”

The moment Sandra announced this with a chuckle, everyone in the room turned their gaze towards Queen Paula.
