The Disenchanted Summoner – Chapter 40

Chapter 40: The Demon Tribe Remains Unaware

“Have we received any information about the new Summoner?”

In one of the offices of the Demon Tribe Nation’s military, Commander Yarman was speaking with a member of the intelligence department.

“No, the Summoner is being kept within Admos’s Royal Castle… Since the last report, which mentioned there are supposedly two Summoners this time, we haven’t received any useful information.”
“I see…”
“However, we have obtained some trivial information.”
“Trivial information?”
“Yes. It seems one of the Summoners frequently calls for prostitutes to the castle.”
“…That’s seriously useless information.”

Yarman buried his head in his hands at the intelligence report.

When news arrived that Admos had requested Lindor to summon the Summoner again, tension surged throughout the Demon Tribe Nation.

After all, the last Summoner, Kenta, had defeated the former king, who was said to be the strongest in history.

Now, another Summoner had appeared, and with two of them, it made Yarman wonder if the Human Tribe was truly planning to destroy the Demon Tribe Nation this time.

“Anyway, gather any information you can, no matter how trivial. Perhaps that earlier gossip might lead to something useful.”
“Understood!”

The intelligence officer said this and left Yarman’s office.

Yarman himself knew that the earlier comment was a facade.

What could possibly be gleaned from the information that the new Summoner frequently summoned prostitutes?

It only suggested that he likely had a strong libido, and nothing more.

Almost a year ago, for some reason, the Human Tribes of Weimar and Admos had started a war, which had been a beneficial situation for the Demon Tribe Nation, as both sides were wearing each other down.

“What on earth are the Humans thinking…”

The Demon Tribe, being a minority in the world, had little desire to expand their territory by annihilating the surrounding Human nations.

It was always the Humans who attacked.

The former king, renowned as the strongest in history, had decided to invade the surrounding Human nations to put an end to the cycle of being attacked, but that was an exception rather than the rule.

For some reason, the Humans had not invaded the Demon Tribe Nation and instead began fighting amongst themselves.

At that time, Yarman had wondered if the Humans simply could not be at peace without battling someone. Yet, he could not decipher Admos’s subsequent actions.

“Are they trying to reclaim lost territory from the Demon Tribe Nation because they lost the war?”

The reason the Humans summoned Summoners was always to invade the Demon Tribe Nation.

Over fifty years ago, when a Summoner was called, they also attacked the Demon Tribe Nation.

Yarman, who had not yet been born at that time, had learned about it in history.

However, it seemed that the Summoner from that time was not as strong as Kenta, as he had ultimately been defeated by the Demon Tribe.

The absence of any Summoners prior to Kenta in this world was due to that very reason.

Yet, Kenta’s strength was extraordinary.

And now, there were two such Summoners.

“…It might be best to deal with this sooner rather than later.”

Just as he muttered this, a knock sounded at the office door.

“Commander Yarman, are you there?”

“Yeah, I’m here.”
“May I enter?”
“Go ahead.”
“Excuse me.”

The one who entered was a close aide to the king.

“What is it?”
“Your Majesty requests your presence. Could you please come to the king’s office urgently?”
“The king is calling for me?”

Surprised by the fact that the king wanted to see him, Yarman quickly deduced that it was likely about this matter.

Following the aide’s instructions, Yarman made his way to the king’s office, and upon entering, he was taken aback.

The key figures of the Demon Tribe Nation had gathered there.

“I have come as requested.”

Yarman bowed his head, but the king immediately got to the point without offering any words of gratitude.

“What is the status of the Summoner situation?”
“Currently, we are investigating, but since they are hidden within the Royal Castle, we haven’t received detailed information.”

As Yarman reported, the king deliberately clicked his tongue in annoyance.

“Tch! Useless. If we can’t figure anything out by sneaking around, then there’s no point in continuing the investigation. Their aim is undoubtedly my head. In that case, it would be better to eliminate them before they gain power like that one.”

Yarman felt a flash of irritation at the king’s harsh words, but he couldn’t deny that the king’s assessment was not entirely off the mark.

“That’s true. While we haven’t precisely determined the reason for their summoning, historical patterns suggest that this is a strong possibility.”
“See? Even the field commander agrees. Anyone who doesn’t act on this is just a coward.”

The king surveyed the gathered dignitaries as he spoke.

Some of the key figures exchanged glances and shook their heads in resignation.

“Finally understood, have you? Then it’s settled?”

Thus, the new king declared to the dignitaries.

“From now on, we will declare war on Admos. The objective is…”

With a smirk, the king continued.

“To eliminate the new Summoners.”

And so, the war between Admos and the Demon Tribe Nation began.
