The Disenchanted Summoner – Chapter 52

Chapter 52: Speaking of Which, That Was My Previous Job

“I heard that Admos is going to ask Lindor for the next Otherworld Summoning.”

Ivern said this while unloading his bags as he returned from town.

Upon hearing this, Nara-kun stared intently at Ivern while taking the bags.

“Ivern-san, you really look like a traveling merchant, huh?”
“What? Are you saying that too?”

As he said this, Ivern put Nara-kun in a headlock.

“Whoa! Please stop it, Ivern-san!”
“Shut up. This is how I deal with cheeky brats!”

The two were playfully wrestling with each other.

“Quit playing around and get to work. With two more residents, we’ve got more stuff to sort out.”

When I said this, they both quickly separated and came over.

“Sorry, sorry.”
“My apologies.”

They began organizing the bags while saying that.

Watching them, I couldn’t help but wonder.

“You two have really gotten close, huh? What’s with the sudden camaraderie?”

It had only been a few days since Nara-kun moved here.

Yet, the relationship between Ivern and Nara-kun felt like that of a senior and junior who had been together for a long time.

“Why, you ask…”
“Well, we have something in common.”
“Something in common?”

When I tilted my head at Ivern’s words, he grinned.

“You both spared my life even after opposing me.”
“Should I just kill you right here?”

Don’t bond over something so ridiculous.

“No, it’s an important thing! The fact that we weren’t killed by Maya-san means we think similarly, right?”
“…Is that how it works?”
“That’s how it works.”

I didn’t really get it.

As we chatted about this nonsense, I helped Ivern sort through the supplies he had brought back.

Nara-kun and the others were still living in my house since their own home wasn’t finished yet.

So, I divided their belongings among my own.

“Your house will be done soon, huh?”
“Yeah.”
“Magic is amazing! The house was built in no time!”
“Speaking of magic, how’s your training going, Nara-kun? Have you learned to control your Magic Power well?”

I had constructed Nara-kun’s house using magic, and when he first witnessed it, his eyes sparkled with excitement.

Considering he had arrived here with murky eyes, it seemed like he was starting to heal emotionally.

Seeing Nara-kun excited about magic, I decided to start teaching him.

Not out of kindness, though.

If he could use magic, it would increase our fighting strength.

Now that he was interested in magic, I figured he would learn quickly.

However, since Nara-kun had come from a Human Tribe nation where magic was scarce, he couldn’t even control the Magic Power needed to construct spells.

So, I started by teaching him that, but even the most basic practice seemed to excite him, and since then, he had been practicing every day.

“Magic is so interesting! I can control my Magic Power much better now!”

No, no, Nara-kun.

That’s still not magic.

It’s training to use magic, not magic training.

Well, there’s no point in telling Nara-kun that since he knows nothing about magic, and I didn’t want to dampen his motivation, so I kept quiet.

Thanks to that, Nara-kun seemed to be having fun every day.

“That’s great to hear.”

When I said that, Nara-kun smiled wryly.

“Still, it’s ironic that I, who thought I couldn’t do magic, am getting proper lessons in it.”
“Oh, the other one?”
“Yeah. He said he would become a powerful magician someday, but in the end, he didn’t learn anything. I never thought basic training would be this necessary…”

As Nara-kun said this, he began gathering Magic Power in his palm.

“Of course. You can’t construct magic without Magic Power. It’s like trying to play a handheld game without a battery.”

When I said this, Nara-kun nodded in understanding.

“That’s true! Magic Power is like a battery. So, what about the main unit and the software?”
“The main unit is your body, and the software is the spell construction formula.”
“It’s like a program, huh?”
“Exactly. So, depending on the construction formula, you can do anything. But that only works if you have the body to connect the Magic Power and the formula.”
“I understand! I’ll keep increasing my battery capacity from now on!”
“Do that.”

This explanation was very well received by Nara-kun, but for Ivern and the others from this world, it was completely incomprehensible.

“Seriously, I can never understand your conversations.”
“Well, of course. We’re talking based on knowledge from our original world.”

If you understood, you’d be a reincarnator.

“More importantly, Ivern. If Admos is summoning again, what about the other Summoner who was left behind?”

When I said this, Ivern shrugged.

“Who knows?”
“Useless, huh?”
“Oh? You wanna go?”
“I could, but you’d die, you know?”
“Yeah, I’ll pass.”
“You two seem pretty close, huh?”

Nara-kun, who had been watching our exchange, suddenly said something ridiculous.

“Huh? Where’s the closeness in talking about killing each other?”

When I said this, for some reason, Ivern chuckled.

“That’s become your catchphrase, hasn’t it? And it’s the kind that gets executed suddenly.”
“Yikes.”
“Ugh, just hurry up and finish sorting the bags.”

After we finished organizing the supplies, we gathered in the living room for a break.

There, with me and Nara-kun, was Eva, whom we had brought from Admos.

Eva was a princess and had never done housework, so in that sense, she was not much help.

However, she actively played with Leon and Aira.

Thanks to that, Meileen and Yulia were able to have some time for themselves, and they were incredibly grateful to Eva.

…Though I think she just wants to play with the kids.

Well, there was a reason we were all gathered for a break, including Eva, who had inadvertently become a caretaker in this house.

That was to inform her that Admos was planning to conduct another Otherworld Summoning.

When I shared the information Ivern had gathered in town, Eva looked momentarily stunned before anger flickered across her face.

“Such actions that disregard human life… My father truly was a cruel man!! I was right to part ways with him!!”

This former princess, being the youngest daughter, had been raised freely, and perhaps because of that, she didn’t often doubt people. She also disliked cruel acts, likely due to her love for heroic tales.

It seemed she couldn’t forgive King Admos for taking the approach of summoning another when Nara-kun and Ota-kun had failed, even though he was her father.

“So, what will we do? Will we just sit back and wait for the next Summoner to appear? Or…”

I paused, and Nara-kun grinned.

“Of course. We’ll go interfere.”

Just like when I had suggested it before, Nara-kun was extremely eager to disrupt the summoning.

That was likely partly out of revenge against Admos, but also to prevent any more victims from being created through summoning.

Honestly, I didn’t mind either way.

In fact, I was curious to see what kind of impact a second summoning in such a short time would have.

After all, the irregularity of summoning two people in such a short span was already unprecedented.

But the princess wouldn’t allow such things.

“Of course, we should disrupt the summoning! No, we should destroy the Summoning Magic Circle! That way, we can prevent any more victims like Maya-sama or Mitsuhiko-sama from being born!”

Ota-kun was naturally ignored. Poor guy.

Well, I didn’t really care either way, but since Eva was so passionate about stopping the summoning, the consensus was reached to prevent this summoning.

“Then, the next step is to find out when Admos will go to Lindor. Ivern, go gather information.”
“Are you kidding? There’s no way I can do that.”

Why not?

If we don’t know the exact information, we’ll just end up waiting uselessly in Lindor.

“Huh? Ivern-san, you’re good at that kind of thing, right?”

See? Nara-kun thinks so too.

“That’s not it! I’m just gathering information that’s spreading around town. There’s no way I can investigate the movements of the nation!”

What a useless guy.

So what should we do? As we all tilted our heads in confusion, someone spoke up.

“Then, I shall go.”

It was Mona who said this.

Ah, come to think of it, she would be suitable for the task.

Ivern nodded in agreement with Mona’s suggestion, but Nara-kun tilted his head.

“Why is it Mona-san?”
“Mona is a former member of the intelligence unit from the Demon Tribe Nation.”
“Eh!?”
As I introduced Mona’s background, Nara-kun’s eyes widened in surprise, and Mona bowed her head respectfully in response to him.

“I used to be part of an intelligence unit, so gathering information is my specialty. For this urgent matter, please feel free to call upon me.”

While bowing her head, Mona said this, and I issued her a command.

“Alright. Then go to Admos and find out when Lindor is set to depart.”
“Understood.”

After saying that, Mona lifted her head and extended her hand toward me.

“What is it?”
“Could you give me something useful?”
“…”

Wow, she’s really bold now.

It’s true that this house is stocked with many magical tools that you won’t find anywhere else.

So she must have figured there would be some useful items for her intelligence activities.

Well, there are.

“You’re quite the opportunist. Here.”

As I handed her the item, Mona looked at it with a puzzled expression.

“What is this?”
“This is…”

I stood up and walked to the corner of the room.

Then, I pulled out the same item I had just given her and switched it on.

“This is a tool that allows you to talk to someone far away.”
“!!”

What I handed to Mona was a walkie-talkie.

I thought it would be fine since we didn’t need a mobile phone, and it was just for talking to specific people.

There’s also a telepathy spell, but that’s a magic only I can use.

Mona can’t use it either.

This walkie-talkie is essentially a tool infused with that telepathy magic.

By the way, it works regardless of distance.

“…This is amazing. With this, reporting will be much easier.”

Mona seemed unusually excited about this tool, which was perfectly suited for intelligence work.

“Yeah, and take this too.”

I handed her another item.

“What is this? This board?”
“This is… you place it on the ground, hook your toes here… then when you activate it…”
“!? W-Wait, it’s floating!?”

This was a skateboard without wheels.

With this, moving around would become much easier.

“Thank you! This will make my intelligence activities so much easier.”
“Just don’t let anyone see you flying, alright?”
“Understood. I’ll start practicing right away.”

With that, Mona quickly left the room, carrying the walkie-talkie and the skateboard… or should I call it a Flying Board?

With this, it seemed like I could gather real-time information.

When I turned my gaze back to everyone, I found Nara-kun looking at me with an intense desire.

“Maya-san! Maya-san!”
“What is it?”
“I want one of those too!”
“Which one?”
“The flying one!”
“Oh, the Flying Board.”
“Exactly!”
“Shut up. What do you even need something like that for?”
“I want to play!”

Ah, looks like I hit a nerve with Nara-kun, the high school boy.

“No way.”
“Come on! Please give me one too!”
“Shut up. Figure it out yourself.”
“Maya-eemon!!”
“What is it, Mitsuta-kun?”

For a moment, I could have sworn I saw glasses on Nara-kun’s face, even though he wasn’t wearing any.

In the end, I caved in to Mitsuta… Nara-kun’s persistent pleas and gave him a Flying Board as a recreational tool.

Nara-kun dashed out to the garden, excitedly practicing, while Ivern watched him with a serious expression.

“…What’s with this Maya-eemon and Mitsuta-kun thing?”

You don’t need to worry about it.
