The Disenchanted Summoner – Chapter 54

Chapter 54: The Superhuman Mona

“This is Mona. I’ve just arrived at Admos. I will now commence the infiltration operation into the Royal Castle.”

I heard Mona’s voice crackle through the radio I held.

She had left here around noon, and now it was night.

It seemed she had already reached Admos.

“Whoa… flying makes it this fast, huh…?”

Nara, who had walked all the way here, was astonished by the speed.

Come to think of it, he mentioned it took him about a week to get here.

Hearing that it only took half a day must be quite a blow.

“Understood.”
“Oh, Maya-san sounds so cool…!”

This guy… When he first appeared before me, he had this mysterious aura about him, but now he had completely transformed into a junior underling character.

Well, as long as he’s here, he won’t have to worry about living conditions, and he has a girlfriend, friends, and fellow countrymen around.

Maybe the stress from his otherworldly life has finally started to ease.

However, it seems he still hasn’t shaken off the trauma of having killed someone, as Eva mentioned he sometimes has nightmares.

This is something I can’t help with; I’m not a psychiatrist, and I only made it to the second year of high school back in my world, just like Nara, so I don’t know how to solve it.

The only solutions are time or numbing it like I did.

…Somehow, the latter seems easier.

But if I go that route, Nara would be labeled as an enemy of the world.

That’s a bit too cruel.

“This is Mona. I’ve successfully infiltrated the Royal Castle. I’m heading to the office now.”
“Oh, you’ve already infiltrated? That was quick.”
“This Flying Board is incredibly efficient. With this, I can infiltrate anywhere.”
“Then I’ll be counting on you again next time.”
“Understood. I will now cut off communication for a while.”
“Got it.”

With that, the transmission from Mona ended.

“Infiltrating the Royal Castle… isn’t this where the real challenge begins?”

I said, noticing Ivern’s serious expression as he listened to my conversation with Mona.

“Considering her background as a former member of the Demon Tribe’s intelligence unit, she should be quite adept at infiltration. I hear she can use magic to conceal her presence.”
“Mona-san really is quite the cheat, huh?”
“Cheat?”
“It means awesome!”
“That’s not it.”

This guy really talks just for the sake of it.

Seriously, where did that initial vibe go?

“So, what’s that supposed to mean? Do you know something about Maya-san?”
“Cheat refers to unfair practices or something like that. So, for people like me and Nara-kun, it means having an unfair advantage in this world.”

When I said that, Nara’s face turned to one of surprise.

“Wait, Maya-san, you were seventeen back there, right? How do you know that?”
“Oh, I used to play a lot of FPS games back in my world. I absolutely despise cheaters.”
“Really?”

Nara looked impressed, but then Ivern’s words made him panic.

“Indeed, you guys are quite unfair.”
“Hey! That’s not our fault! Right? Maya-san!”

Ivern grinned as he teased Nara, who desperately sought my help.

“Well, having immense Magic Power and high physical abilities is, in a way, cheating.”
“What!? You’re admitting it!?”
“But that alone doesn’t make us this strong. We’ve trained and studied to make use of that potential. Plus, there are those who received the same power as us but couldn’t utilize it, right?”

When I said that, Nara clapped his hands in realization.

“Ota! Speaking of which, what happened to him?”
“Mona should be able to find that out too.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”

Well, considering he’s trying to summon someone from another world again, it’s safe to assume he’s been discarded.

Though, since otherworlders are generally tougher than the locals, he probably wasn’t executed but rather exiled.

As we were discussing this, Mona contacted us again.

“This is Mona. I obtained information surprisingly easily.”
“Oh, nice going. What did you find out?”
“It seems the demands made to Lindor have been approved, and they plan to depart for Lindor at the beginning of next week.”
“You managed to find that out too?”
“What’s going on with the counterintelligence in this country? They’re practically defenseless.”
“Well, there aren’t any humans here who can use magic to conceal their presence or anything. It can’t be helped. By the way, what about Ota?”
“It appears he was exiled from the castle as a useless burden.”

Just as I thought.

That was expected.

“I’ll explore the town to check on this Ota before returning.”
“Got it. You can take a little break while you’re at it.”

When I said that, Mona’s response momentarily cut off.

“Mona?”
“…No, I think I’ll just head back after exploring the town. I can’t shake this feeling of unease about leaving home…”

“Ah, I see.”

The women in this house consist of two former princesses and one former explorer.

They help out, but Mona handles most of the household chores.

The dinner we had earlier was just something she reheated.

“Then I’ll cut off communication for now. If anything comes up, I’ll contact you.”
“Understood.”

After ending the transmission, it wasn’t long before Mona contacted us again.

“Kenta-sama.”
“Hm? What is it?”
“…I’ve found Ota.”

At that report, we exchanged glances.

“Isn’t that too soon?”
“Well, when I first went to the Explorer’s Guild, there was an explorer persistently bothering the receptionist…”
“Oh?”
“As I eavesdropped, he seemed to be boasting about something… saying he’d become the ace of the guild soon, so everyone should look forward to it.”
“Hmm.”
“The explorer’s name was Ota. He matched the description Nara-sama provided.”

Even though he was thrown out of the castle as a useless burden, how can he be so positive?

…Oh, wait a minute…

“Is he thinking something like, ‘I may have been thrown out of the castle, but I’m actually the strongest’?”
“!? “

Mona sounded utterly shocked on the other end of the radio.

“What’s wrong?”
“…I was surprised. The words that Ota blurted out after leaving the guild were exactly as you said…”

“Seriously?”
“When I returned to the guild to ask about Ota, they said he has strong power but is utterly useless in combat, and even though he claims to be able to use magic, he’s just a hindrance.”

“…Wait? It hasn’t been that long since Nara and I abducted Eva, right?”
“…Yeah, it’s only been a few days.”
“And yet, he’s already got such a reputation… Ota’s in trouble, isn’t he?”

When I said that, Nara and Eva both frowned in genuine distaste.

“I really don’t like that guy.”
“I don’t like him either!!”

Well, Nara seems to have put in quite a bit of effort, and Eva has a strong sense of justice.

Ota, who is disliked by both of them.

Just from that, I can tell what kind of person he is.

Ota, no matter what power he’s gained, if he doesn’t put in the effort, it won’t be of any use.

I can just leave Ota alone.

He poses no threat whatsoever.

A few hours later, late at night, Mona returned home.

To think she could go back and forth between here and Admos in a single day while conducting intelligence activities.

Moreover, she apparently prepared breakfast the next morning before going to bed.

…Is she a superhuman?
