The Guard Who Was Supposed to Lose – Chapter 15

Episode 15: The Beaten-Down Jailer Gets Encouraged

After Katiana escaped from the dungeon.

I was going through my usual daily routine, feeling somewhat spaced out.

“—Lugs!! Lugas!!”

“Huh?”

“My hamburg steak is going to burn!! Don’t space out!!”

“Ah, sorry.”

I was shaken by Lucifiel, which snapped me out of it, and I hurriedly flipped the hamburg steak I was cooking.

After that, I just needed to put the lid on and steam it a little, and it would be done.

Lucifiel let out a sigh of relief and placed a hand on her chest, then started nagging at me from the side.

“Honestly!! Lately, you’ve been acting like your mind is elsewhere!!”

“Ah, sorry. I was just thinking about something.”

“What is it? Are you still regretting letting the prisoner escape?”

“No, it’s not that I regret it, but I was wondering if it was okay to let her go.”

“Hmph. You’re getting too attached to a prisoner who escaped on her own.”

Lucifiel looked at me in exasperation.

Well, it’s true that it’s strange for me, a mere jailer who’s just meant to be a pushover, to be worrying about Katiana, who’s supposed to be the heroine.

But Katiana is my friend.

If I had stopped Katiana there, she might have been spared from a terrible fate.

“Alright, it’s done. The hamburg steak.”

“Ooh!! Mufufu, lately, if I don’t eat your cooking, I can’t seem to get motivated to do anything!!”

Lucifiel happily carried the plate with my cooking on it.

She’s probably going to Marisela’s place.

Just as I thought that, Lucifiel turned towards me.

“Hey, Lugas.”

“What is it?”

“I don’t understand your worries, nor do I intend to understand them.”

“Uh, is that so?”

“But, Mother might be able to advise you. If you can’t clear the haze in your heart, you should consult with Mother.”

That was Lucifiel’s way of showing concern.

It was a clumsy way of putting it, but it was something the old Lucifiel wouldn’t have said.

It’s true that thinking about it alone won’t get me anywhere.

“And that’s why, I’m here.”

“Oh my.”

Before I knew it, I was visiting Marisela’s room with Lucifiel.

Lucifiel was sitting on a chair next to Marisela’s bed, happily munching on the hamburg steak.

Marisela didn’t show any displeasure at my sudden visit and smiled cheerfully.

Then, I told her about Katiana.

Of course, I kept quiet about the future that Katiana might experience.

Even if I talked about game knowledge, I didn’t think she would believe me.

Marisela listened to me until I finished, occasionally nodding in agreement.

“…I see. Lugas-kun regrets letting his human friend go, doesn’t he?”

“It’s not so much regret, but more like, maybe I should have stopped her.”

“That’s a difficult problem…”

Marisela said, looking troubled as she crossed her arms and placed a hand on her cheek.

Her large breasts were emphasized.

“When you regret something, it’s true that everyone thinks about what would have happened if they hadn’t made that choice.”

“Huh?”

“But, those kinds of regrets are something you’ll end up having no matter which choice you make.”

“H-huh, is that so?”

“Yes, that’s how it is for me. That’s why I try not to overthink things in those situations.”

Marisela smiled nostalgically, as if she had also worried about something in the past.

Looking at Marisela like that, I ended up revealing my feelings even more.

“But, like, no matter what, if I’m going to get attached to someone, maybe it would have been better not to try to get along with them in the first place… that’s what I end up thinking…”

What would have happened if I hadn’t been kind to the heroine from the start, and had just coldly cut her off?

Maybe when Katiana escaped, I would have been easily killed as a pushover, just like in the game.

The reason I’m alive now is because she had some affection for me.

But because of that, I’m regretting it.

So, wouldn’t it have been better to just abandon the heroine from the start and make the cell as sturdy as possible to prevent her escape?

Even if I try not to overthink it, as Marisela says, those thoughts keep popping up.

“That’s not right, Lugas-kun.”

“Huh? Whoa!?”

It was too sudden.

For some reason, Marisela suddenly hugged me in front of her daughter.

My head was enveloped by her soft, fluffy, large breasts.

My thoughts completely stopped, and I didn’t understand what was happening.

!? Eh, wh-what’s going on!?

“U-um, Marisela-sama!?”

“Fufu, does it calm you down? When my late husband was worried about something, I often did this for him.”

“No, it’s not that it calms me down, it’s more like the opposite effect!!”

She smelled incredibly sweet.

Moreover, Marisela’s body temperature seemed to be a bit high, and it felt good just being hugged.

“It’s a waste that you made such a precious friend, so you shouldn’t think that it would have been better if you hadn’t become friends in the first place, no, no.”

“…”

“If you’re regretting something, what you do after that is important. You can either live with that regret in your heart, or you can take action to put an end to that regret. It’s up to you which one you choose.”

“…If you put it that way, I have no choice but to do it.”

Well, this is probably the result of me trying to avoid death by getting close to the heroine.

It’s not my fault.

I just ended up ignoring the scenario by chance.

That’s right, it’s not my fault at all.

No matter what I do from now on, and no matter what the result is, it’s not my fault.

“Marisela-sama, thank you. I’m going to go now.”

“Yes, do your best. I’m cheering for you.”

“Yes. Um, so, I mean, could you please let me go now…?”

“Oh my, can’t we stay like this a little longer? Fufu, or do you not like being hugged by me?”

No, it’s not that I don’t like it at all.

It’s just that if we stay like this, my lower half is going to be in trouble.
