The World’s Strongest Knight – Chapter 31

“What’s that white unit…?”

“Knight Commander, may we fire?”

“Yes, Lord has ordered its subjugation.”

(But it’s the first time I’ve seen Lord so flustered, is there something wrong with that unit?)

“Alright, you lot! Same as always! Lay down a barrage!”

“Understood!”

The Knight Commander’s instructions were precise.
In a long-range barrage, there’s no room for technical differences.
No matter how ridiculous one’s combat skills, they’re meaningless against this storm of bullets.
Kenyya himself had just experienced that.

Against a normal unit, that alone would have been enough to completely shut it down.

If it were a normal unit.

“Ready! Fir—!?”

Immediately, a triangular pyramid-shaped shield appeared in front of the white unit.
It charged forward, using the shield like a spear.
Its speed was unlike any KOG before, like a white bullet.

“Fire! Fire!!”

The Knight Commander couldn’t hide his agitation, but since there was still ample distance, they managed to lay down a barrage.
They succeeded, but…

“!?…It’s deflecting everything!?”

The spear-like shield deflected everything backward.
The white mass moved at high speed, like lightning.

And in an instant, it was in close range.

“What is this unit!!”

The spear-like shield transformed into two massive swords.
Kenyya held the swords in both hands.

That figure was like…

“Miyamoto Musashi…”

Tanaka muttered, referring to the dual-wielding swordsman.
A sword in the right hand, a sword in the left, and defeat for the enemy.

In the previous world, Takemikazuchi was a unit created in the image of that swordsman.
Based on Kenyya’s proposal, Takemikazuchi’s equipment included a shield for closing the distance and two transforming swords.

It was an abnormal, close-combat-focused unit that completely eliminated long-range weapons.
Tanaka was initially skeptical whether such a thing could be used on the battlefield, but that was a needless worry.

The distance created by the two swords held loosely was Kenyya’s absolute domain.
Within that range, defense was impossible, and no one could withstand it.

The fifteen KOGs within that domain were all cut down in a single minute.
Later, Kenyya’s absolute range would be called the White Domain by friend and foe alike, with both fear and respect.

In that space, only the white unit was allowed to exist.

“If it’s me, if it’s Takemikazuchi and me… we won’t lose!”

Kenyya was happy.

Happy that he could survive, that he had been given the power to fight.
And that he could fight with all his might in this beloved unit.

And when he looked up at the sky, there was a massive black shadow.
A large force of over 70 units.

“…Come at me, as many as you want. Right now.”

Kenyya grinned.

“I don’t feel like I’d lose even in a 100 vs 1!”

“What is that… Zeke!! What is that!!”

Lord stood up from his throne.
He trembled with anger and fear, experiencing a sensation he had never felt before.

“That is the latest model unit. Among the existing KOGs, it is theoretically the fastest and strongest, but a pilot who can control it…”

“There is one! It’s impossible! 100 against 1! That’s impossible!”

KOGs were being destroyed one after another.
One would explode in the blink of an eye, being defeated in a single blow, while their attacks had no effect whatsoever.

The black KOGs were being taken down one after another with lightning speed.

(Concentrate… see everything.)

Kenyya focused.
He dove deep into a quiet world, like the bottom of the sea, and immersed himself.

The pinnacle of concentration that top athletes call the zone.
He stepped into that fickle pinnacle, which he couldn’t reach by his own will, by his own volition.

Kenyya, who had fought to the brink of death, finally forced open that door himself.

Strong will, talent.
And a state of extreme focus.
All the gears meshed, and Kenyya finally opened the door.

A sense of omnipotence enveloped Kenyya, he felt like he could even cut down bullets right now.

“90!”

He cleaved the 90th KOG, combining it with the 30 he had defeated earlier.
100 vs 1, a difference in strength that would normally make victory impossible.
It shouldn’t even be a fight in the first place, it was only possible because of Kenyya’s godlike piloting skills.

Even though they were all Knight-class and there were no Ace-class among them, it was still an overwhelming numerical advantage.

In addition, Kenyya realized during the battle that it was similar to the battle he had before.
It was as if he was being tested to see if he could overcome this situation, this desperate situation.

It was an event that only those who were qualified to come to this world could break through.

Then there was no reason to lose.

How many times had he challenged, how many times had he been defeated?
The tenacity of the boy who never gave up in order to save the two heroines.

The difference from that time when he had unlimited attempts was that he only had one attempt now.

Then he would definitely seize it.

If there was her smile beyond that.
If he could meet the girl who said she liked him again!

“I will definitely survive!!”

He destroyed the 99th KOG.

“I’m going to flirt with Kaguyaaaaa!!!!”

And the last one was cleaved in two.
In his left hand, the power to protect what was important, and in his right hand, the power to pierce through his will.
With a will of steel to achieve his goal, he cut down all the enemies.

Kenyya had won.
He stood alone on the rubble, looking up at the sky.

Around him, countless remains of KOGs burned with flames.
100 units, meaning he had killed 100 people.
To survive, to let Kaguya and the others survive.

“Kaguya, I survived.”

Immediately after, Kenyya fell to his knees.
He had already exceeded the limit of his concentration, and his brain felt like it was about to burn out.
The adrenaline that had been keeping him going collapsed, and he felt like he could fall asleep at any moment.

He could see a huge vehicle in the distance.
Probably the commander was there.
And Reina, and Zeke-san too.

Then there was no need to chase them.

Because the victor of this battle had already been decided.

“Fufufu, hahaha!! What is this! It’s impossible, this is impossible!… It’s impossible even as a bad joke.”

Lord laughed and trembled.
As if he had broken, he laughed loudly at his defeat, and leaned weakly against his throne.

“Did I lose? Me? I was completely cut down… my strategy was cut in half. It’s the first time, I’ve lost on the battlefield.”

“L-Lord…”

On this day, Lord’s undefeated legend came to an end.
By a single irregular unit.

“What surpassed the strategy was the tactics of a single person. Argo, order a retreat, the victor of this battlefield has already been decided.”

“…Y-yes.”

Commander Argo was in a daze.
Lord’s instructions were precise, and there were no mistakes.
It was the best, the most optimal, and they should have achieved a guaranteed victory.

And yet, they lost.

Why did they lose?

The reason was clear.
Because that white KOG had ignored all the strategies.
It had surpassed the macro with the micro, and turned an overwhelming victory into a defeat.

“Retreat… a full retreat, the operation is over.”

Argo gave the order in a trembling voice.
All the Aasgard Empire forces, including the infantry on the battlefield, began to retreat.

“They’re retreating…”

Kenyya muttered as he watched the scene.
He leaned weakly against the cockpit seat.
Even though he had won, he didn’t feel any sense of accomplishment.

There was a lot of damage, and many people had died.

Both enemies and allies, many people had died, killed and been killed.

And yet.

“What did we gain? What was born from all these deaths?”

Only death was born.
What was born from this battle, what could they gain?

Kenyya could only think of what he had lost.

It was the same for the enemy.

The only thing he knew was that power was needed to protect.
If he hadn’t fought, if he didn’t have this power, Kaguya would have died here.

So he had no regrets.

But still, he couldn’t help but think about what he had lost, and tears came to his eyes.
He remembered the hand he couldn’t grasp at that time, and the tears that were shed.

“I’ll become stronger… more. Enough to protect everything. With these two hands.”

Kenyya, who had awakened and won.

Lord, who had been defeated on the battlefield for the first time.

From this day when the two boys met for the first time on the battlefield, the huge gears of fate began to mesh and turn.
The story of two geniuses that would develop into a battle that would change the way the world was.

This encounter would create a new Route in this world.

But for now.

“Tanaka-san, I’m sorry. I’m going to sleep for a bit.”

The knight, who had fought a battle that had burned out his brain, fell asleep.

Preparing for the next battle, together with that white knight.

KAZU

P.S.: My favorite anime is Code Geass. I have used a large part of its world view as a reference.
Rather, my love overflows, and when I write about characters I like, they end up becoming more and more similar.
The question is, how much originality can I bring out from here…?

※I’ve received a few comments, but I haven’t played Muv-Luv. It’s not a joke; it’s all a surprising coincidence. I’m surprised myself, but I haven’t referenced it at all.
