Troublemaker of the Baron Family – Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Is This Magic?
Read/Memorize… Suddenly, [Magic Pouch・1-5×1] popped into my head.
I couldn’t help but let out an “Eh?” and Hattie-san gave me a strange look.
What was that just now…? I’m sure [Magic Pouch・1-5×1] appeared in my head.
What was I doing just now?

I was watching Hattie-san put away the tea things into her Magic Pouch, thinking about the magic words I received…
Looking at the Magic Pouch again, I thought, (Read/Memorize…) and [Magic Pouch・1-5×2] appeared in my head.

This is it!
Read and Memorize, then what about Paste and Delete?

“Is something wrong, Fernan?”

“Mm… I was just wondering what the 1-5 on Hattie-san’s Magic Pouch means.”

“Oh, that means it can store items up to 1 cubic meter in size, and it extends time by a factor of 5. If soup would normally spoil in one day, the 5 means it will keep for five days.”

“Hmm,” I replied vaguely, pretending to lose interest while thinking.
So Read and Memorize tells me what something I see is.
With that, I tried (Read/Memorize) (Read/Memorize) (Read/Memorize) on everything I saw, but I only learned about the Magic Pouch, [Magic Pouch・1-5×5].

But there was another discovery.
While wondering what Memorize did, I thought ‘Magic Pouch, Magic Pouch,’ and [Magic Pouch・1-5×5] came to mind.
It seems Memorize is for storing what was Read, and the 5 likely means I’ve Read Hattie-san’s Magic Pouch five times, so the memory count is 5.

* * * * * * *

Lying in bed, I thought carefully about [Magic Pouch・1-5×5] and realized that [Read/Memorize/Paste/Delete] must be the ability to read and memorize the magic circle (?) imbued in a magic tool.
In that case, Paste must be the ability to affix the memorized magic circle onto something.
And Delete is undoubtedly for erasing what was affixed.

I got out of bed, looked at the pocket of the clothes hanging on the wall, thought (Magic Pouch, Magic Pouch), and [Magic Pouch・1-5×5] appeared in my head, so I thought (Paste).
The [Magic Pouch・1-5×5] in my head changed to [Magic Pouch・1-5
I figured this out while practicing infusing just a tiny bit of thin, long Magical Power into Household Magic. When I chanted “Light” with the intention of using just a single drop of Magical Power, I was hit by a flash so intense I thought I might go blind.
Moreover, “Light” was also the most troublesome spell to handle, but I solved that by figuring out how to give it directionality.
The common light novel saying, “Magic is all about image,” turned out to be true.

This “Light,” now renamed “Flash,” proved extremely useful during hunts.
I search for prey with my Detection Skill, approach using my Stealth Skill, hit them with the Flash, and then shoot them with my Short Bow.
When subjugating wolf-types or dog-types, although I stay hidden in the rear, I provide support by hitting them with the directional Flash from beside my companions to blind them.
Since I can’t use it from more than 10 meters away, this is the best I can do, but I flatter myself that it’s quite useful.
