Episode 339: The Final Surprise
And so, the first-ever party held by the Clover Count House came to a close.
The party’s concept was to celebrate the completion of the mansion, but with the collection of rare dishes, it became centered around the food.
In any case… the party, to which influential nobles and even royalty from the Aiwood Kingdom were invited, was a great success.
The Clover Count House, a newly established noble family, had a bright start.
“Well, well… it’s over. Good work, you two.”
“Yes, good work.”
“Thank you for your hard work.”
With a small clink, three glasses were brought together.
The location was a room in the Clover Count House’s mansion. There, Rest, Viola, and Primula had gathered to raise a toast.
The party was already over, and the guests had left. Although the after-party cleanup remained… they were having a celebration beforehand.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Honestly, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
“Me too. It was my first time managing a party, so I was nervous.”
“Me as well. My heart was pounding so hard, I thought it would burst.”
Primula pressed her chest and let out a long sigh.
Both of them were still sixteen years old. Although they were marquis daughters, they were still students, and although they were adults in this country, they were still children in Japan.
Such girls had entertained the heavyweights of the country… adults equivalent to ministers and governors. It must have been a nerve-wracking experience.
“I’m glad everyone enjoyed it. Our Clover Count House will gain some prestige.”
“Our… huh?”
Rest chuckled at Viola’s words.
Although the wedding ceremony had not yet taken place, Viola and Primula were his fiancées.
This party would have made it widely known that the two were ‘Countess Clover.’
“What? Do you have any objections?”
“Rest-sama, do you not want to marry us?”
“No, no, not at all. It’s not that I don’t want to… I just thought it was good timing.”
“Good timing?”
The sisters looked at each other and tilted their heads.
Although the sisters had opposite personalities, it always warmed his heart to see their gestures synchronized like this.
“To tell you the truth, I have one… no, two surprises prepared.”
“Oh, what is it?”
“What could it be?”
“Well then, could you both come to the balcony?”
Rest opened the glass door and led the sisters to the balcony.
The two followed Rest with curious expressions.
“I thought about showing it off as entertainment at the party… but I thought I’d dedicate the first time to you two. It’s my new magic.”
Rest gathered his Magical Power and raised his palm to the sky.
Magic he had been planning to show off someday. Rest had created several original spells… but this one was not for combat. It was a spell created to entertain someone.
“[Night Cherry Blossoms (Yozakura)]”
The next moment, Fire burst into the sky.
Pink Fire spread across the night sky, drawing a vivid flower.
“Wow…!”
The sisters exclaimed in admiration.
Rest continued to release colorful Fire, painting the canvas of the sky.
“Amazing… it’s so beautiful…!”
“I’ve never seen magic like this before… did Rest-san create it?”
“Yeah, I named it [Night Cherry Blossoms].”
That was the new magic Rest had created.
By releasing colorful Fire into the sky, it entertained the viewers… in other words, fireworks.
(There are no fireworks in this world. Well, since there’s no gunpowder, that’s only natural.)
It was possible to recreate fireworks using magic. Technically, it wasn’t that difficult.
(The difficult part is that there’s no concept of it… magic is a weapon. It’s a technique for fighting. No one thinks of using it to entertain people.)
In his old world, it took six centuries from the development of gunpowder to the creation of ornamental fireworks.
One reason for this was that gunpowder was a valuable commodity, but perhaps there were no people who thought of using a tool for killing people as entertainment.
“That’s amazing, Rest! Is this the surprise!”
“I’m so happy… but didn’t you say there were two surprises?”
“That’s right, what’s the other one?”
The sisters asked curiously, their voices filled with excitement at the unexpectedly beautiful sight.
Rest, more nervous than he had been at the party… took out ‘it,’ which he had hidden in his pocket beforehand.
“I have a present for you two… I want you to accept it.”
“Eh…?”
What he presented to the two was a ring made of Rainbow Crystal.
He had asked a jeweler to process the raw stone he had brought back from the centipede’s nest into a ring.
The size was also adjusted to fit the ring finger of their left hands. He had asked his attendant maid to measure them secretly.
“Once again… I look forward to working with you in the future. I want you to support me as my wives.”
“…………!”
After Rest slipped the rings onto their fingers, the two were stunned into silence for a while.
But… they must have understood the situation.
They beamed and hugged Rest.
“With pleasure!!”
“Waaah!”
Rest was hugged by the sisters and fell backward onto the balcony.
“I won’t let you go no matter what you say! Be prepared!”
“We’ll be together forever! Absolutely!”
“Hahaha… please be gentle.”
Viola and Primula were overjoyed to the point of tears, and it was worth giving them the present.
“Oh, I’m so happy… I want to give you everything right now!”
“Viola-ane-san, shouldn’t we just skip the ceremony altogether?”
“That’s right… as long as we don’t make a child, should we just do it?”
“Haaah!? What are you talking about!?”
Rest shouted in panic at the outrageous statement.
“It’s okay, Rest. Just count the stars.”
“I’ll be gentle with you, Rest-sama…!”
“W-wait… nooooooooooooo!”
Rest, pinned down by the two who were undressing him, let out a scream like a maiden.
