Fantasy Something – Chapter 66

Episode 66
Three months have passed since I returned to Japan.
Lately, I’ve been spending my days maxing out the levels and skills of all my game companions, and defeating the hidden boss over and over again.

“Hey! Send me back over there! Let me see Millie and Shino!”

The hidden boss in Fantasy Legend was the God of Creation, a character sealed away by the final boss.
Deep within a mysterious temple that becomes accessible after defeating the final boss is a giant orb of light—that’s the God of Creation.
If you talk to it, it thanks you for releasing the seal, and then, for some reason, it says it will grant your wish if you fight and win. I think it’s a pretty common type of hidden boss.
I’ve been clinging to the promise of granting a wish and keep defeating the God of Creation, but there’s no sign of my wish being granted. Only the strongest weapons and strongest special moves are displayed as options.

“I don’t need that stuff. Just let me go over there!”

What am I supposed to do with that stuff now when there are no other enemies to defeat? This is just another glimpse of the sloppiness that makes this game a dud.

“…Haaah.”

No matter how much I search the game, I can’t find any clues, and now I’m just mechanically defeating the hidden boss, the God of Creation. Nothing special happens, and I just get useless weapons.

Six months have passed since I returned to Japan.
I’ve given up on攻略ing the game for now and am trying a different approach.
Today, I decided to recreate what happened when I went over there, so I grabbed the game software and fell down with a thud, hitting my head on every corner I could find.

“…That didn’t work either.”

The result wasn’t that I hurt my head, but that the drawers and tables were dented into the shape of my head. My head is incredibly hard.

“I have to hurry. I have to get back soon.”

It’s been half a year already, so assuming the same amount of time is passing over there, Millie and Shino should have arrived in Waslein a long time ago. They’re probably meeting Geld, who should be back to normal.

When I sent them off, I said all sorts of things to Millie, like about marriage and children, and to Shino, that we’d be together until we die, just saying things to give them hope. If I were to become someone else, they would surely be shocked. Just imagining how sad and hurt they would be makes my chest ache.

“I shouldn’t have said such things, even if it was to motivate them…”

Along with that feeling of regret, I also feel a bit of fear. Even though I didn’t return by my own will, I shudder to think how they would react if they thought they had been betrayed.
There’s also the possibility that they might be angry instead of sad.

Looking back, the message I asked Shell to deliver wasn’t good either, even though I was in a hurry. Just saying “I’m sorry” might make it sound like I disappeared of my own volition.

I forced them on a troublesome journey to return to the original world, while I was playing around with the maids in the mansion, and then disappeared without taking responsibility for what I said once I was done. I’m definitely a scumbag.
But no matter how much I panic and try different things, nothing happens. I’m just wasting time.

A year has passed since I returned to Japan.
Today, as always, I’m playing Fantasy Legend.
But after a year of trying everything without any results, my main goal now is to immerse myself in the memories of that world.
To meet acquaintances, I first head to the town of Waslein. The characters in the game who have the deepest connection with Geld are, of course, his father and older brother.

“Father, Older Brother, he’s the one who killed me!”

These two are in the biggest mansion in the town of Waslein.
If you talk to them there, you can witness the psychopathic protagonist nonchalantly acting in front of Geld’s father and older brother, even though he killed Geld.
There are also many maids in the mansion, but they are treated as mob characters with no face graphics and only the name “Maid” written. However, you can roughly guess who they are based on their hair color, speech, and strength in card battles. Emi, the card maniac, is the easiest to identify.

Also, Gouketu-sensei from the Swordsmanship Club appears, although he only has a small role in the game.
Unfortunately, Royal Ukyak Academy doesn’t exist in the game, but Gouketu is the only one of its members you can talk to in the northern part of the kingdom in the late game. He plays the role of a pitiful man driven to his death, complaining about his situation.
But even in that situation, he ends his lines with “Oh well… I guess I’ll just do what I can,” which is just like my master.

Speaking of academies, I should have met the characters who appear at Desroah Academy, but to be honest, I don’t really know who’s who. At most, I remember there was a laid-back female teacher.

Like this, I’m a disaster when it comes to people, but I remember a lot of places.
I clearly remember all the places I traveled to with Shino and Millie.

“This is the town where Shino got drunk for once, wasn’t it?”

That was back when I was just going back and forth between the bar and the inn. Shino was also involved in the ‘Gouken no Gerudo’ scandal.

“I’ve been here with Millie before. I think Millie got too excited and tripped and fell…”

Millie was always excited during the trip, so there’s no shortage of clumsy episodes like this.

“I went here too, and here too. Nostalgic…”

Everywhere I go in the game is full of memories.
But the more enjoyable the memories are, the more depressed I feel about the current situation. I should stop dwelling on the memories and think about what to do tomorrow.

“Haa, time to sleep. Maybe I’ll get hit by a truck tomorrow… no, that probably won’t work and it’ll be a nuisance… hmm.”

I shake my head to get rid of the bad feeling and lie down on the bed.
Then, before I knew it, I was standing in a mysterious space filled with a warm light that was white or golden.
Did I fall asleep right away and start dreaming?
I’m the only one here. There’s just a blurry white light…

『It seems we have successfully made contact. I had something to talk about, so I took the liberty of intruding on your dream.』
“Huh?”

What, am I having a weird dream… no, even if something this fantastical happens, I can’t just laugh it off as a dream.
Besides, I recognize this light.

“Could it be… the hidden boss of Fantasy Legend, the God of Creation!?”
『That’s right.』
“…You’re late!”

I was angry.
