Chapter 13: Bisected with a Single Stroke [Side: Ghuftok]
“A G-Golem…?”
To think, what we believed to be the dungeon wall was actually the body of an Elder Golem.
But still… to be so enormous that we didn’t even realize it…!
“Enough, let’s run…!”
“R-Right…”
Cartina grabbed my hand, preparing to flee.
Plum and Natalia were also already set on escaping.
“GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!”
“Uwah…!”
However, the Golem wasn’t about to let us.
One of the “walls” came crashing down towards me.
–THUD!
“Gyaah!”
I was slammed against the opposite wall, as if punched by the wall itself.
Because of that, an intense pain shot through my arm.
“Guoooooooh! I-It’s broken…!”
“Ghuftok-sama…!?”
Damn it, to think it would attack the moment we tried to escape.
Is it angry because I hit it?
No, with a body this massive, that would have been like a bug bite to it, nothing more than a trivial pain.
My arm broken, I collapsed on the spot.
I needed to escape quickly, but the intense pain made it hard to stand up.
It didn’t attack us directly after that, so it seems the Golem hasn’t noticed us and isn’t specifically targeting us.
Being this big, that last attack was probably just a reflex.
However, it seemed the Golem was trying to change its posture.
–RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
“Damn it…! The walls…! They’re moving…!”
“At this rate, our escape route will be…!”
Unbelievably, because the Golem shifted its position, we ended up trapped inside the dungeon.
It’s because I hit it or something that the Golem moved.
“Wh-What should we do…”
“Ugh… my arm…”
We were left behind in the dungeon.
And what’s more, my arm is broken.
These women are useless…
Our supplies are low too.
This is a desperate situation.
◇
How many hours had passed since then…?
Perhaps a whole day had gone by.
We were trapped in one of the dungeon’s rooms, completely stuck.
There was nothing to do, and it felt like we were just waiting for death.
Suddenly, Natalia spoke up.
“Ghuftok-sama…!”
“What is it…?! My arm hurts, damn it!”
Seriously, she’s so inconsiderate.
She looks like she wants to say something, but I’m in no condition for that!
“Um… aren’t the walls… closing in…?”
“Huh…?”
Right, we weren’t just trapped!
Looking closely, I felt like the room had gotten narrower than before.
No, it wasn’t my imagination.
Slowly but surely, the walls were closing in.
“Hey! What’s going on…!”
“I-I don’t know… but… it’s certain that the Golem is moving, little by little.”
So even a Golem doesn’t stay perfectly still forever, huh…?
But still, why…
Does this mean we’re going to be easily crushed by the Golem’s whim…!?
“Damn it…! Isn’t there any way to escape!”
“If we carelessly attack the walls… like before, they might close in even further, and things could get really bad…”
“Aaaaargh! What is the Guild doing…!?”
“You’re right… In times like these, there should be a rescue from the Guild…”
That’s right, it’s about time we were rescued.
A considerable amount of time has passed since we left for the quest.
The Guild should have noticed something was wrong and issued an Emergency Quest by now.
“Damn it…! I’m hungry, my arm hurts, this is the worst!”
My arm wound was festering and on the verge of infection.
The dungeon is full of monster crap; the sanitary conditions are terrible.
At this rate, my arm will be useless forever…!
No, more important than that.
This situation, where we could be crushed by the walls at any moment, is the bigger problem.
Will the Golem make a big move first, or will rescue come first…?
“Useless Guild…!”
We just waited quietly, feeling like we were merely awaiting death.
And then, the moment finally came.
“UOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!”
Along with that roar, light suddenly shone into the dungeon.
Unbelievably, the Golem had been split clean in two, bisected by a single sword stroke.
The ceiling of the room we were in seemed to have cracked wide open.
“Wh-What… is this absurd attack…!?”
Could it be that an S-Rank adventurer came to rescue us…!?
But that guess was wrong.
“Y-You’re…!?”
“………”
The person who came to rescue us was clad in armor I’d never seen before.
Clad in pitch-black armor, the person’s face was hidden by a helmet.
“H-Hey…! Wait…!”
There was no time to properly thank him or get a good look; he was gone.
Who on earth was that mysterious person…?
“W-We’re saved, aren’t we… Ghuftok-sama.”
“Y-Yeah… But who in the world was he?”
I’ve never seen or heard of an adventurer like that.
To bisect such a huge Elder Golem solo with a single stroke…
“Come to think of it, that weapon… it looked like the one that Loin guy had… No, that can’t be.”
I recognized the weapon the armored man was carrying.
But, could something like that be possible…?
I can’t imagine that Loin being capable of such a thing.
The armor he wore too; Loin’s was white, and that person’s was black.
There are plenty of similar swords out there.
The claim that it was a sword made of Demonite Ore was probably just Loin spouting nonsense anyway…
But the question is why Loin had a sword like the one that adventurer was carrying…
Well, I guess it doesn’t really matter.
