Chapter 130: The Gusoku Insect Poison Centipede
“My stomach hurts…”
With such a flimsy lie, we returned to the village.
“Ugh, my stomach hurts~”
“Onii-sama, are you alright? You should lie down as soon as we get back, okay?”
“…”
Lily was looking at me with an expression that went beyond suspicion to exasperation, but Cornelia was genuinely, truly worried about me.
Until now, I had never actively lied to Cornelia.
I felt truly sorry that my first lie to her was about something so trivial.
And so, we returned to the village, but without even lying down in bed, I set off again immediately.
My destination was the small pyramid I had found with my Mystic Eyes of Far Sight.
I dashed through the night forest, heading straight for the pyramid.
I ignored the monsters I encountered on the way. I couldn’t afford to waste time dealing with them.
The night forest was pitch black, untouched by moonlight. However, with my dragon eyes, I could see everything clearly, so it wasn’t a problem.
If there was a problem, it was time.
If I didn’t return as quickly as possible, Cornelia and the others would get suspicious.
Well, it wouldn’t be too much trouble even if they did get suspicious. But it would be a problem if they misunderstood and thought I was visiting a brothel. I was misunderstood once when I came back late, and it was a huge hassle.
“Hmph!”
“GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!?”
While clearing away the monsters obstructing my path, I headed straight for the small pyramid.
By dawn, I reached the small pyramid. Bathed in the morning sun, the small pyramid sparkled with a white brilliance, looking somewhat fantastical.
Well, inside it was swarming with insect-type monsters, though…
“Alright, let’s do this… Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball, Fireball!”
I took out the red jewel and unleashed a barrage of magic from the pyramid’s entrance towards the inside.
Time to disinfect the filth! Good grief, insects burn really well!
After subjugating most of the monsters like that, I entered the pyramid. For some reason, it was bright inside. Were the walls themselves glowing?
Placing my hand on the smooth-textured walls, I descended a slope-like ramp.
Occasionally, surviving monsters attacked, but I fought back with my sword.
Beetle-type monsters are troublesome, protected by their hard shells. The blade of my sword is already tattered. It was a sword I’d grown somewhat fond of… Can’t be helped.
When I reached the bottom of the slope, a faint miasma began to drift about.
“Seiyaa!”
I crushed the head of a spider-type monster that dropped from the ceiling in a surprise attack.
Even though its head was crushed, the spider still twitched and moved. It’s this needlessly high life force that makes me hate insects. Just die quietly already.
Since the miasma started to drift, I feel like the monsters have gotten a bit stronger.
Is the miasma strengthening the monsters?
The deeper I went, the thicker the miasma became, and now it’s like a smokescreen.
“Anti-Curse.”
After increasing my resistance to curses with magic, I proceeded deeper, and then…
Kishikishikishikishikishikishikishikishikishikishikishi!!!
“Whoa…”
Just as I was about to reach my destination, a giant Centipede appeared. It was enormous, probably ten meters long.
Had it been strengthened by absorbing copious amounts of miasma, or was it due to this environment…?
The interior of this pyramid was teeming with a massive number of insect-type monsters. In a way, it was a natural Gusoku Insect Poison pot. If so, then this Centipede in the deepest part must be the king of insect-type monsters and the strongest venomous insect.
The Centipede reared its head and charged. Its large mandibles, like the scythe of a death god, closed in on me.
“Hmph.”
I dodged the Centipede’s mandibles by crouching and slashed upwards at them with my sword.
GAKIN!!!
A metallic sound, as if metals were clashing against each other, echoed all around.
KIIIN!
“Wha-!?”
My sword broke!? True, it had accumulated metal fatigue, but are the Centipede’s mandibles harder than this!?
GAKIN! GAKIN!
Had its intelligence increased too? The Centipede clicked its mandibles as if laughing at me for losing my sword.
“Alright, bring it on…!”
I clenched both fists and took a fighting stance.
“Un-Limited…!”
CRACK!
In that instant, it was as if all the muscles in my body began to stir in a frenzy of wild delight.
Just then, the Centipede charged again. Its venomous mandibles closed in once more.
“Haah!”
I caught the Centipede’s mandibles head-on with both hands. Just by gripping them lightly, cracks appeared in its mandibles. Fragile.
BAKIN!
I snapped off both of the Centipede’s mandibles and delivered an uppercut to its head.
PPAAAAAN!!!
The Centipede’s head burst open like a popped balloon.
My complete victory.
Even though it had lost its head, the Centipede thrashed about violently. However, perhaps because it couldn’t see without its eyes, it was attacking in random directions.
Well, I guess I’ll wait until the Centipede calms down.
