Reincarnated as a Wastrel – Chapter 2

Growth Stat System
Although it’s unofficial information, one of the elements that every hardcore JRO (Jobs Recruit Online) player knows is something called the “Growth Stat System.”

Basically, if you want to raise your base stats in JRO, you either raise your level, or you repeatedly change jobs for career upgrades to add bonuses – those are the two main options. But besides those, there’s also a system where your base stats increase slightly depending on your actions within the game.

Because this system is hidden, you wouldn’t normally notice it if you just played casually.
However, for example, if you keep defeating enemies with weapon-bashing motions, even as a mage-type job, your attack power stat would increase unusually. Conversely, if you carefully use buffs, even as a warrior-type, your MP would increase to a certain extent.
We call that system the “Growth Stat.”

Perhaps they wanted to replicate the real-world principle where actions taken at a younger developmental stage have a greater impact, because for some reason, this Growth Stat is easiest to raise during the tutorial stage before you even get your first job, and it becomes harder to raise the longer your playtime gets, making it quite a tricky system.

Incidentally, the limit for Growth Stats is set to +320 for all stats at level 50.
However, at low levels, these Growth Stats are barely reflected, so you’d only notice this later on. But if you’re a completionist, it’s a given that you’d max out all Growth Stats during the tutorial stage.

However, most hardcore players had already leveled their characters to a point where Growth Stats barely increased, so they were forced to choose between spending an enormous amount of time painstakingly maxing out their Growth Stats, or starting over, maxing out the Growth Stats, and then re-grinding all their previous progress.
I chose the former, and it took me a full three weeks to max out my Growth Stats.

But this time, I’m still a 0-year-old baby!
At this stage, where I can’t even reach the tutorial phase, I’m sure I can max out my Growth Stats much faster and more efficiently than in the game.

The stats in the world of JRO are HP, MP, Attack, Defense, Magic Attack, Magic Defense, and Agility – seven types in total!
As a baby who can’t move much and can only cry, I probably can’t raise physical stats like HP, Attack, Defense, and Agility yet.

However, conversely, I think I can raise the other magical stats even in my current state.

The method is extremely simple.
Just chant the three types of non-elemental magic usable in the tutorial: “Magic Bullet,” “Magic Wall,” and “Magic Infusion”—which correspond to non-elemental attack, defense, and enhancement magic, respectively.

“Uwaah! (Magic Bullet!)”

When I chanted it, a flimsy projectile, like a transparent air bubble, flew upwards and then feebly fell back down towards me, lying face-up on the bed.

“Aei! (Magic Wall!)”

Kiiin, a sound rang out. It seems I managed to block it successfully.
Satisfied with the feeling of success, I thought, “One more time!” and tried to chant again, but my energy drained, and I couldn’t muster any strength.
As expected of a 0-year-old. Even a spell that probably only consumes 1 MP is enough to run me out of mana, huh?

My head is throbbing. But still, the fact that I could use magic felt like proof that I had truly reincarnated into the world of JRO.
That made me strangely happy, and feeling a somewhat refreshing exhaustion, I took a nap.

Time flew by in an instant, and two years have passed since then.

Until my muscles developed enough for me to stand and walk around somewhat freely, I relentlessly continued to raise my MP, Magic Attack, and Magic Defense Growth Stats.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m so young, or because this is a different world and it’s real, but my MP, Magic Attack, and Magic Defense values show no signs of stopping their growth.

I don’t know if the upper limit for “Growth Stats” was removed due to this world becoming real, or if there was an undiscovered or unimplemented system within JRO, but my magical stats, at the age of two, had grown to be not much different from an average Level 10 mage job.

To me, a former JRO hardcore player, a Level 10 mage is just a beginner, but still, it’s strong enough to hunt weaklings like goblins or slimes. I could probably become something like a village guard.

However, what I’m aiming for isn’t to be a mere village guard, but to be “the strongest.”

The strongest in the world. Max level is a given, and the strongest equipment is also a given.
It’s a world where even with perfectly customized skills and jobs, you don’t know if you can reach it. In this world, if you look down, there are people terrified of goblins and slimes, but if you look up, there are monsters who can obliterate even dragons with a single snort – it’s limitless.

But that’s precisely why this world, JRO, is so interesting!

I digressed, but basically, I’m not the type to be satisfied with magical stats at this level. You can never raise base stats too much, after all!

That said, in the world of JRO—it’s something written on pretty much every game strategy wiki—this world is overwhelmingly biased towards physical prowess.

Most enemies, whether trash mobs or bosses, attack with physical blows, and when you’re on the offensive, it’s generally more efficient to just pummel them with physical attacks.
At high levels, magic is mostly used for attack-boosting buffs, and the conclusion is that relentlessly attacking with physical attacks dependent on attack power is the strongest.

Around mid-levels, considering magical elemental advantages can sometimes be more efficient, though. Anyway, from today onwards, I want to focus on increasing my physical “Growth Stats” even more than my magical ones.

I have my doubts about whether it’s okay to raise Growth Stats with a two-year-old’s body… but, well, it’ll probably be fine. I hear kids are tougher than we imagine.

So, with that in mind, I want to raise my physical stats—namely HP, Attack Power, Defense Power, and Agility. The JRO Growth Stat System is fundamentally designed so that the earlier you start and the more you use them, the more they increase.

In other words, if I moderately reduce my HP while attacking something, practicing defense, and also doing exercises that seem like they’d increase my speed, all stats will grow.
The quickest way is to fight monsters, but that seems difficult in my current situation where I’m not even allowed outside the house. So, I decided to try the next most efficient method known in JRO.

And that is…

“Toooouryaaaah!!”

CRASH! I charged into the wall with a loud noise. Running full tilt for about 15 meters and crashing into an obstacle. This is the one brilliant way to efficiently raise physical stats!

Unlike defeating monsters, you can just set up a macro and leave it, and your Growth Stats will increase, so it was a pretty popular method in JRO.

“H-Height-sama!?”
“P-Please stop, Young Master!!”

By the time the maids and butlers noticed my strange behavior and stopped me, my body was already covered in bruises.

Argio (Father) and Mother scolded me severely for my bizarre actions, but when I said, “I want to become a strong knight!”
“I think it’s a bit early for Height, but…”
“Well said! That’s the spirit of a Dukeheart’s eldest son!!”

With that kind of reaction, at the age of two, I ended up getting training from a professional knight. This is truly what they call a blessing in disguise. I mean, I actually got injured, after all.

Wait, I’m the eldest son?
The Dukeheart House is a marquis house, so I just assumed I had older brothers or sisters who weren’t at home.
Well, but just because I was born first, I bet a bunch of ridiculously strong younger brothers and sisters will be born from now on.

When I think about the characters I haven’t met yet, and the parts of JRO’s world I haven’t seen, my excitement becomes uncontrollable.

I’m going to rise to the top. To become the strongest in this world—!!
