The Job Assignment Ceremony and Disownment
In JRO, it happened right after the tutorial ended.
In this world, the moment you turn fifteen—to be precise, in March of the year you turn 15 by traditional age reckoning—you can acquire your first “Profession” at the church.
The date for the so-called “Job Assignment Ceremony” was indeed today.
“Height, today is the long-awaited ‘Job Assignment Ceremony’ day, isn’t it! I was so nervous I barely slept last night.”
“Yeah, same here.”
Seriously, I was so excited my eyes were wide open, and I couldn’t sleep.
If things go according to JRO, Reina will probably get “Dragon Knight Princess.”
But I… Height, was a character who didn’t appear in JRO. I wouldn’t know what profession I’d get until it actually happened. I couldn’t help but look forward to that.
What will my first career be?
JRO is heavily skewed towards physical stats, so a Swordsman-type focused on attack, a Knight-type focused on defense, or a Warrior-type with performance somewhere in between would be good.
But, I’ve also trained my magic power, so at the very least, an offensive magic profession would be barely tolerable.
Sorcerers and Priests are the losing draws. You’re forced to focus on support, so I absolutely don’t want to become one, but all I can do is pray.
But, it should be fine.
JRO’s “Job Assignment Ceremony” is a starting event where one “Profession” is randomly given from over a hundred types, but the appearance rate for support types was set low.
Besides, although I haven’t verified it, the profession given at the Job Assignment Ceremony seems to be somewhat influenced by actions taken during the tutorial.
I’ve been rigorously training my offensive capabilities, so I should definitely be able to become an attacker profession.
If you get a support job, your leveling efficiency drops considerably. They’re weak enough that even the strategy wiki recommends rerolling if you get Sorcerer or Priest.
“I’m sure you’ll get a wonderful ‘Profession,’ Height.”
I wonder. I don’t think I can build my first career with a profession surpassing “Dragon Knight Princess,” though. But well, I’ve maxed out all my Growth Stats, and I’ve raised my level as much as possible. I’ve done everything I could.
“That’s something only the goddess knows, I suppose.”
Unlike JRO, you can’t reroll in this world. Still, for today at least, I had no choice but to pray to the goddess who supposedly grants professions.

“Reina Hermenia-sama. Your profession is ‘Dragon Knight Princess.'”
“Uooooh,” the voices in the venue surged.
Traditionally, the “Job Assignment Ceremony” is conducted by what’s commonly known as the “Job-Recruit Church.”
I, the eldest son of a Marquis house, and Reina, a princess, receive our professions at the “Job-Recruit Church Hermenia Royal Capital Branch,” and Reina, having the highest family status among the nobles turning fifteen this year, was the first to be granted a profession.
Honestly, I don’t think a better profession will appear this year.
Some looked upon such a powerful profession with awe, some with respect, and others with envy.
A first career is, after all, just a first career, but it’s also true that it’s an event that significantly influences one’s life.
If you draw a strong profession there, there’s no doubt your future will be promising.
“Height! I did it!! I got ‘Dragon Knight Princess’!”
“Oh, congratulations.”
“Huh? Your reaction is weaker than I expected.”
Well, I knew Reina’s profession in JRO.
So my only thought was something like, “Ah, she got the profession just as expected,” which is why my reaction inevitably became lukewarm.
“Height Duekhardt.”
While that was happening, my name was called soon after.
I’m the eldest son of a Marquis house. Among the fifteen-year-olds here for the “Job Assignment Ceremony” today, my family status is about the third highest. Once Reina received her “Profession,” my turn would come right after.
“So that’s the rumored prodigy of the Marquis house.”
“Yes, perhaps he’ll obtain a ‘Profession’ even more amazing than Reina-sama’s.”
“In that case, wouldn’t it have to be something like ‘Hero’ or ‘Brave’?”
I could hear the nobles whispering. Hero, Brave, huh. Some people get those professions around their third career, but in the early game, leveling is difficult, and the MP cost for each skill is too high, so they don’t seem that strong.
Personally, “Ninja,” which can learn “Annihilation” at level 30—a skill that adds a 5% instant death chance to normal attacks—or “Berserker,” which can learn “Life Drain” at level 25—a skill that recovers HP equal to 3% of the damage dealt with normal attacks—would be ideal. But well, as long as it’s an attacker type, they’re generally strong if you just hit things, so pretty much anything is fine.
Now then, my profession is—
“Height Duekhardt-sama. Your profession is— ‘Farmer’…”
When the Archbishop announced it, the place fell deathly silent.
Farmer. A Farmer, huh. Not bad. Not bad at all!
“Farmer” is a “Profession” that gets a minuscule bonus to physical stats other than agility, but unlike other Warrior-types, it has the characteristic of not having negative modifiers to magic stats or agility, making it a straightforward profession suitable for beginners.
Perhaps because JRO wanted to recreate a realistic medieval world, it’s also a common profession with an astounding 40% chance of being obtained from the first career job gacha.
Its skills and magic aren’t that bad either, and most importantly, unlike other professions, Farmer has no level cap. (Incidentally, the cap for Hero and Brave is 100.)
Therefore, typical JRO hardcore players often take the route of going through various professions, maxing out their levels, and then finally becoming a “Farmer” again. My main character before I died was, of course, a “Farmer” too, but…
“Y-You fool! I’m disappointed in you, Height!!”
Algeo’s furious shout echoed through the cathedral where the church’s “Job Assignment Ceremony” was being held.
“Of all things, ‘Farmer’? As a noble, as a member of a Marquis house, to take such a lowly profession, do you intend to bring shame upon this father of yours?!!”
“Eh? No, eh??”
This world is based on JRO, so 40% of the entire population’s first career is Farmer, right? Besides,
“F-Father. Why are you so angry? It’s fine, isn’t it, even if it’s Farmer? I just need to raise my level and get a career upgrade, that’s all.”
“‘Career upgrade’? What are you talking about, you? This is a ‘Profession’ granted by the goddess! There’s no way you can change your ‘Profession’!”
“Eh?”
When I looked at Reina with a “Seriously?” expression, she whispered, “I’ve never heard of this ‘career upgrade’ either.”
Eh? Can’t get a career upgrade? Hearing that, it hit me. Come to think of it, “career upgrades” in JRO were content you couldn’t access without paying. And this world is real. There’s no way to pay a management company in Japanese yen here.
…In that case… That was close!! If I hadn’t drawn “Farmer,” which has no level cap, I wouldn’t have been able to become the strongest!!
What? Does that mean there was a 60% chance I would have totally bombed? That’s way too dangerous…
However, there’s one more thing I don’t understand. That is, Algeo is furious, and the other nobles are whispering derisively, looking at me with cold eyes.
If there’s no career upgrade system, then logically, “Farmer” should be a huge win, right?
Certainly, at low levels, “Farmer” can be inconvenient due to its low stat modifiers and somewhat limited repertoire of skills and magic, but once you start surpassing level 100, minor differences in stat modifiers become completely irrelevant…
“—owned.”
As I was racking my brain with “hmm, hmm,” Algeo declared.
“You are disowned, Height!! I will not permit someone with a lowly profession like ‘Farmer’ to bear the proud name of the Dukeheart House, passed down through generations!”
“Indeed. Height. If you are disowned from the Dukeheart House, you are now no better than a commoner with no lineage. Furthermore, I, the King, have no intention whatsoever of giving my beloved daughter to a mere farmer. As of this moment, the engagement between you and Reina is hereby annulled!”
As if to pile on Algeo’s words, King Hermenia also continued.
Disowned? Engagement annulled?
…I don’t understand. Agitated and confused, I turned my gaze towards Reina. Reina kept her head down, remaining silent.
I don’t know the reason.
However, on this day, because I obtained the “Profession” of “Farmer,” I was disowned from the Dukeheart House—meaning I lost my food, clothing, and shelter—and above all, my engagement with Reina was annulled.
