“Prince Harold-dono, shouldn’t you start preparing soon…?”
The servants visit my room, timidly gauging my expression.
Well, that’s understandable. If they upset me, who’s already difficult, there’s no telling what they might suffer.
“I know. I’m sorry, but could you wait just thirty more minutes?”
“H-Huh!? Understood…”
The servants widened their eyes in surprise and hurried out of the room.
Hey, isn’t that a bit of an overreaction just for a slight delay? …But I guess that’s how it is, considering how I usually am…
“Haa… well, I guess it can’t be helped, considering how I usually am…”
I stare at my own image in the mirror, a mob character with black hair slicked back and gray, sanpaku eyes, and let out a huge sigh.
My name is Harold Wel Dehauvalz.
I am the Third Prince of the Dehauvalz Kingdom, one of the great powers in the Western countries, and a man who is cunning, despicable, and the worst kind of bandwagoner.
That is who I am.
Eh? Why do I speak so badly of myself? It’s obvious.
Because I am… a sycophant character to the rival character of the protagonist in this chat-based romance smartphone RPG called “Engage Hazard” (or “EnHaza” for short). Complicated, isn’t it?
Well, to put it simply, I’m like that guy with the weird hairstyle who ignores the laws of physics in that national cat-type robot anime.
I desperately try to curry favor with the rival character, bully the protagonist at every opportunity, and ultimately suffer even more than the rival character. A pathetic existence that couldn’t even become a stepping stone. It makes me sad just saying it.
I learned this fact this morning.
When I woke up, I suddenly regained my memories of my previous life, a common occurrence in isekai stories.
In my previous life, I was a normal college student named Haru Tachibana.
I came to Tokyo from the countryside to attend university, but I was originally shy and withdrawn, so I couldn’t fit in. To ease my loneliness, I started playing “EnHaza.”
However, I became completely addicted to the cheerful chat talk and cuteness of the “EnHaza” heroines (or rather, the people behind them), and I spent most of my part-time job money on gacha… It makes me sad just saying it, and it was the same even before I was reincarnated. Damn it.
Anyway, this place is different from the world I was in before. I have to prevent the same scenario as the game at all costs.
Otherwise, I am destined to die.
Well, I want to say, why does a mere sycophant character have to suffer such a fate, but unfortunately, this man Harold ultimately plots a rebellion.
He becomes intensely jealous of the protagonist, who is naturally recognized and liked by a large number of heroines, as well as the First and Second Princes, who are rival characters… well, by almost everyone who appears in this game.
However, because he has lived a selfish and self-indulgent life as the Third Prince, he is a pathetic man who can’t do anything without relying on others.
Naturally, the rebellion doesn’t go well, and he is easily stopped by the protagonist and the heroines. In the end, he is executed in front of the protagonist, who has built a harem.
I want to do something about it, but Harold’s reputation is the worst due to his outrageous behavior over the past thirteen years since he was born. It’s a negative start even before the main story begins.
By the way, the First and Second Princes, who are rival characters, have already reconciled with the protagonist, and they never die no matter which route you take.
Rather, the two princes are originally handsome and cool characters, so the developers got carried away and released “EnHaza ~Girls Side~,” in which they appear as cool and Yandere handsome men who devote themselves to the female protagonist. Harold? Of course he’s not there.
In any case, in order to prevent myself from meeting such an end, it would be best to improve my bad reputation and avoid getting involved in the “EnHaza” main story as much as possible, but…
“That’s not going to work, is it…”
After all, the protagonist is my younger brother, the Fourth Prince, and the rival characters are my older brothers, the First and Second Princes.
I have to get involved with them just by living a normal life. There’s no escape.
Fortunately, I am currently thirteen years old, and there are three years left until the main story begins.
In the meantime, I have to forcibly create a route where I survive, which absolutely does not exist in the game.
To do that.
“Today’s meeting absolutely cannot fail.”
This game, “Engage Hazard,” is a story of adventure and romantic comedy where the protagonist meets and falls in love with many unique and cute heroines, with the goal of “bringing the World’s Greatest Fiancée,” which is the condition for being chosen as the next king.
The RPG part involves solving incidents that occur not only in the kingdom but also around the world, and the romance part with the heroines… that is, the Fiancée Candidates, is progressed in a chat format, which is an extremely novel specification.
However, unfortunately, this game’s specifications were too novel, and in addition to purchasing tickets for chatting, the gacha for heroines and weapons required twice as much payment as a normal game, which was a specification that severely damaged the player’s wallet.
Therefore, user criticism and low rating bombing were incessant from the time of release, and in the end, the service was terminated less than half a year after its release.
When I suddenly saw the “Announcement from the Management” posted a week before the service ended, I cried myself to sleep, wetting my pillow with tears, because of the amount of money I had poured into it… But I woke up as Harold.
“Any, anyway, I refuse to die! I will definitely survive!”
This world only offers despair for the future, but I have completely cleared the game’s scenario… no, the one-week limited event that started with the service termination announcement is still there. Anyway, I know this world of “EnHaza” inside and out!
If so, I should be able to manage somehow if I work hard enough to avoid all the “EnHaza” events. Please let it be so. Please.
“And, that girl… Kuhaha! Let’s do it!”
I raised my fist towards the mirror, letting out a petty laugh like Harold.
