Chapter 100: Nara-kun’s Acquaintance
“Maya-saaan.”
“What is it?”
A few days after the Princess-sama of Weimar came to our house, Nara-kun’s dissatisfied voice echoed through our living room.
“I’m bored, y’know. Can’t I go check out some other place?”
“Of course not. Just keep watch.”
Since that day, I had tasked Nara-kun and Eva with monitoring the area near the border between Weimar and Admos.
We were using the drone-type Magic Tool that I had previously used to monitor Ota’s movements.
Eva would handle it when Nara-kun was doing farm work, and Nara-kun would take over after he got back.
Eva said it was a good way to kill time, but for Nara-kun, this task was apparently unbearably boring.
“You get bored because you’re always looking at the same place. There are other places to monitor, so if you move around, you won’t be bored.”
“Even if you say that, where should I look?”
Well, Nara-kun hasn’t really experienced much of that sort of thing since coming to this world.
It’s not surprising he doesn’t know.
“Fufu. Well then, shall we look ahead on the highway leading to this border? If Admos is to invade Weimar, they will undoubtedly use this highway.”
“If it’s that obvious, won’t they get ambushed or something? Would they really use this road?”
“They will. Other than this highway, the roads aren’t maintained. It’s very difficult for an army to pass through unmaintained land.”
“Is that how it is?”
“In the case of a surprise attack, they might take a pathless route, but in this instance, the advance party should have informed them of the situation near the Weimar Kingdom’s border.”
“The part about them not deploying troops near the border?”
“Yes. Therefore, they should be coming openly along this highway…”
Eva trailed off unnaturally, as if she had spotted something.
Ah, could it be?
“…They’re here. Maya-san! They’ve come! It’s the Admos army!”
“That’s pretty damn fast. Not many days have passed since the Princess-sama arrived, right?”
This meant the army had already departed, regardless of the Princess-sama of Weimar’s reply.
Otherwise, arriving in such a short time is too unnatural.
“…I’ve truly lost all respect for you, Father… no, King of Admos. You never even considered Princess Victoria’s reply from the very beginning!”
Eva, the former princess of that place, was absolutely furious at the King of Admos’s decision to send his army even while forcing the Princess-sama of Weimar to answer whether she was friend or foe.
It’s precisely because he’s her own family that she can’t forgive this action, I guess.
“Eva, how far away is the Admos army? Can they be seen from near the border?”
“Umm… I don’t think they’re visible yet. I believe they’ll be within visual range soon.”
We were able to spot them because we’re looking from the sky with the Magic Tool, but the people near the border are on the ground, so they can’t see the Admos army yet.
“Maya-san, what should we do?”
Nara-kun’s usual junior-like tone was gone.
Come to think of it, Nara-kun did say he was treated well by people in the Admos army.
He’s probably hesitant to attack such people.
“We can’t just sort things out before the Weimar folks know anything, right? It’s fine to wait until the border starts making a fuss.”
“Understood.”
“Also, I’ll do the attacking. Nara-kun, you have acquaintances in the Admos army, right? If it’s tough for you, you don’t have to do it.”
When I said that, Nara-kun looked relieved.
“Roger-ssu. Well then, I’ll go scout the Admos army a bit-ssu.”
Ah, he’s back to normal.
Now that he doesn’t have to attack, his tension probably eased.
Nara-kun was operating the drone-type Magic Tool like that, but with a small “Ah,” his expression turned grim.
“That bastard… showing his face so brazenly…”
For Nara-kun to say that, meant Ota was there, huh.
“Let’s see, let’s see.”
I got curious too, so I peeked at the screen from behind Nara-kun…
“Pfft!”
I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Because…
“I-It’s so damn shiny…!”
Because the sight of Ota, clad in flashy armor made of gleaming silver material with gold decorations here and there, entered my vision.
Moreover, maybe he can’t ride a horse, because he’s in an open-car-like carriage.
He couldn’t stand out more on a battlefield.
“An idiot, there’s an idiot here.”
When I said that, Nara-kun covered his face with both hands.
“…What is this-ssu? I’m super embarrassed-ssu…”
Ah, that happens, doesn’t it?
If it were a complete stranger, you could laugh, but if it’s someone you know, it’s incredibly embarrassing.
It’s a thin connection of being former classmates, but since they’re acquaintances, Nara-kun probably took a lot of damage.
Ota, you’re damaging Nara-kun in a place like this, you know.
“Looking at this, does it mean Ota is the commander-in-chief? Even if he can use magic, he’s an amateur when it comes to war, right?”
“That’s true-ssu. I’ll take a little look.”
Saying that, Nara-kun scanned the area around Ota.
“Ah, Commander…”
Seeing the person displayed by the drone-type Magic Tool’s camera, Nara-kun muttered that.
“An acquaintance?”
When I said that, Nara-kun nodded.
“Yes. He’s the commander of the Admos Knights and…”
As Nara-kun said that, his face looked a little sad.
“He’s the one who trained me in swordsmanship, and someone who really looked out for me in Admos.”
“Hmm.”
So, he’s Nara-kun’s benefactor in Admos, huh.
“He’s talking with Ota about something, huh. I wonder what they’re saying…”
This Magic Tool can also pick up sound, but if we get close enough to hear their conversation, there’s a chance we’ll be discovered.
It has a concealment spell on it, so it’s hard to spot, but we can’t take such a risk.
“Ota’s grinning foolishly, but the Commander’s face is grim-ssu.”
Seeing the scene unfold just as Nara-kun described, I thought for a moment and then said to Nara-kun.
“Hey, I’m changing the plan a bit.”
Originally, the plan was to attack the Admos army using the drone-type Magic Tool once they were in sight, but seeing various circumstances, I decided to change the plan.
When I told Nara-kun that, he looked surprised for a moment but then quickly nodded.
“Alright then, once they get a little closer, let’s execute the plan.”
Now, what will be the result of this plan?
…Even though I came up with it myself, I had a feeling it was going to turn into something troublesome again.
