The Guard Who Was Supposed to Lose – Chapter 9

“Headshot!! Headshot!! Flying birds too!! Running boars too!! Headshot!!”

I was hunting monsters with a tension I didn’t quite understand myself.

Normally, with my skills, I’d be lucky to take down one or two bird-type monsters, but this time, I managed to bag over a dozen.

It must be thanks to Eret’s slingshot and potions.

I kept headshotting the prey one after another.

“Tonight, it’s karaage!! Let’s make karaage!! I’m so excited!! Ahahahaha!!”

Having hunted a large number of monsters, I dragged my catch straight to the Demon Lord’s Castle kitchen.

Then, laughing like a madman, I wielded my knife to dismantle the monsters. I was surprised at how smoothly the dismantling went, and the preparations were finished.

“Hey, what’s with that guy?”

“That’s the guy who punched the Demon Lord and broke the things the Demon Lord liked, the crazy one.”

“Is he strong? He doesn’t seem like much.”

“He’s out of his mind. Look at him, swinging that knife around like a maniac.”

“Scary. Let’s not get close.”

The Demonkin who happened to pass by the kitchen were peeking in from the hallway, whispering to each other.

I beckoned them with a knife in my hand.

“Kukuku, I’ll let you guys have some karaage too. It’s so good it’ll make you fly.”

“Hiii!? W-we’re sorry!!”

“Huh? Hey, where are you going?”

I was going to let them have some karaage, but…

It was then that I realized.

My clothes were completely stained red from dismantling the monsters.

And I had a knife in one hand.

Dismantling animals while laughing, it’s a horror scene no matter how you look at it.

“…I’m suddenly calming down.”

The effect of Eret’s potion must have worn off, and my tension returned to normal.

I soaked the bite-sized pieces of meat in a mixture of soy sauce and garlic, and after a while, I coated them in flour and fried them.

I even double-fried them, so they should be absolutely delicious.

“Hey, what are you making?”

“It’s karaage. …Eh, Demon Lord-sama?”

I answered instinctively, as I was suddenly spoken to, but Lucifiel was standing in the kitchen before I knew it.
She was staring at the karaage frying in the oil with great interest.

“Why are you here?”

“I was passing by the kitchen and smelled a strangely fragrant aroma. So, what is this karaage?”

“Karaage is karaage. It’s something you fry until it’s crispy. It’s delicious.”

“…Very well, I shall have a taste of one–“

Lucifiel reached for a piece of karaage on the plate.

I slapped her hand away.

“Ouch, what are you doing!?”

“Snacking is strictly prohibited. And eating with your hands is bad manners.”

“Y-you dare order me around!! Who do you think you are!!”

“Just a jailer, but?”

“Why are you so brazen!! Don’t defy me!! I’ll sentence you to death!!”

“Oh, is that okay? Saying things like that. You won’t be able to eat sweets anymore, you know.”

“!? T-that would be a problem!!”

Lucifiel’s reaction was so simple, it made her seem a little cute.

“Well, there’s quite a bit, so one piece should be fine.”

“Y-yes, that’s right!! Mufufu, you’re reasonable!!”

“Please use a fork or chopsticks to eat it.”

“I know!!”

With that, Lucifiel took a fork from the cupboard and took a bite of the karaage.

It must have still been hot.

The moment she put it in her mouth, Lucifiel cried out, “Ahfu!?”

“Hafu, ahfu, mugu, gulp. …W-what is this!? It’s juicy!! Something amazing is spreading in my mouth!!”

“Your vocabulary is dying.”

Well, she probably doesn’t eat decent food on a regular basis, so it tastes even better to her.

“Hey!! I want to let Mother have some, so give me a few!!”

“Understood. Just put some on a plate and take it.”

“Mufufu, Mother will surely like it!!”

With that, Lucifiel piled a large amount of karaage on a plate and left the kitchen.
…I don’t think Marisela can eat that much.

I took the cooked karaage to the dungeon.

“It’s lunchtime! Today, it’s karaage.”

“Hmm, what’s that? It smells really good.”

“Karaage? I’ve never heard of that dish, but it has a very fragrant smell. It’s appetizing.”

Katiana and Eret said as they ate the karaage.
The senior seems to have become a vegetarian, so he declined.

“I-it’s delicious!! What is this!?”

“…Hmm. You coated the meat in flour and put it in a large amount of hot oil. This is quite delicious.”

I’m glad they both seem to like it.

“However, it’s delicious, but there’s a lot…”

“…Indeed. I got carried away with the tension and made too much.”

“It would be a waste to let this much go bad. Is there any way to preserve food…”

“Ah, that’s right. Miss Eret, could I have a word?”

“What is it?”

I got an idea from Eret’s mutterings and whispered to her.

Then, Eret’s eyes began to shine.

“Can you make it?”

“Yes, I will. I see, if there was such a thing, it would certainly be convenient. Leave it to me. I’ll have the finished product ready by tomorrow.”

“Wow, that’s fast.”

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

Oh, by the way, when I took the leftover karaage to Lucifiel, she happily devoured it.

As expected of the Demon Lord.

The size of her stomach that can hold all that karaage is terrifying.
