Chapter 330: Lighters Are Quite Convenient, Aren’t They?
Volume 3 Now Available! Oh, and it seems we managed to catch the Super Heavy of the Starship…
The relocation of the Magic Barrier Generator, extracted from the Holy Capital, to the fortress has been completed.
This is, of course, a first-time endeavor for the Chimiya Family as well.
While its functions have been passed down through oral tradition, no one truly understood how it would operate in practice.
“As I mentioned before, the barrier will not activate for a certain period. It seems we must wait for it to stabilize before it can manifest,” Noin Iris explained.
“I understand. That period remains unclear,” Cardinal Turanta replied, both of them monitoring the surrounding situation from the command room. Currently, the fortress is under construction, and sharing information between the two has become a daily routine.
“We’ve already begun the Prayer (Maritova) with about ten people. What is needed is a true wish. While many believers in the Holy Capital performed their prayers, our family can achieve the same effect with a smaller group.”
“The awakening of the Magic Stones through prayer, huh? It’s a phenomenon difficult for us to comprehend,” Turanta remarked, to which Noin responded with skepticism.
However, both understood that this was merely a playful exchange, a part of their communication, and not a sign of any deterioration in their relationship.
“Science, was it? The idea that every phenomenon has a reason, and by preparing that reason, one can bring about the desired result. To knock down a stick placed out of reach…”
“You could knock it down just by wishing for it. That’s something we cannot replicate,” Noin countered.
The Chimiya Family can relatively easily utilize Magic. They can swiftly activate it to knock down a stick from a distance.
“We throw stones to knock down the stick. We control the size of the stone, the swing of our arm, and the release point perfectly to ensure it hits. If the stone’s size differs, we can adjust our strength accordingly. If we prepare stones of exactly the same size and weight, we can throw them with the same force to guarantee a hit. That’s how it works.”
“And you can instantly share that action with many of your kin, and you are continuously creating more kin. The newly born kin already know how to knock down the stick. For us, it takes over ten years before we can do the same.”
The Chimiya Family was beginning to grasp the true essence of Paraiso.
Of course, this doesn’t mean they have acquired the vast knowledge of Science.
They understand that they are causing phenomena that resemble magic through a different kind of technology.
“I understand that if we grasp the reasoning, it might be possible, but ultimately, even our magic could be analyzed by you in an instant,” Noin mused.
“Your magic cannot be detected by us. If it cannot be detected, it cannot be observed. Without accurate information, we cannot create moving things,” Turanta explained.
Thus, they engaged in a conversation that seemed substantial yet was entirely devoid of content, deepening their exchange.
About a week has passed since the Chimiya Family began their prayers to the Magic Stones.
They have been confirming the barrier daily through bombardments. As of now, the barrier has yet to manifest.
However, there has been one significant observation that cannot be ignored.
Namely, the Magic Density in the surrounding area, including the fortress itself, has notably increased.
This has already been discussed with the Chimiya Family.
However, given the unprecedented nature of this occurrence and the unknown extent of its effects, they concluded that they would have to continue monitoring for a while longer.
“Now then, Asahi. You insisted on verbally reporting, so I arranged this meeting,” Ringo said.
“Yes, that’s fine, Ringo. I thought it was necessary to report to you first. It feels a bit vague to discuss with my older sister…” Asahi replied.
They were in the lounge within The Tree. Inside were Ringo, controlling a Communicator Android, and Asahi.
“Wouldn’t it have been sufficient to relay the information? Especially since it’s uncertain,” Ringo suggested.
“Well, yes, but intuitively, I think it’s important to talk face-to-face like this,” Asahi said, her enthusiasm evident.
Ringo, attaching a question tag to her response, decided to hold off on further inquiry. Even if it seemed unnecessary to Ringo, there were times when such seemingly trivial matters could hold significance in the realm of Fantasy.
“I can accept that for now. Shall we move on to the main topic?” Ringo prompted.
“You’re so impatient, Ringo. It’s a tea party, so why not enjoy it a bit longer?” Asahi teased.
“…Well, if you say so, there must be some meaning behind it,” Ringo replied.
“Huh? No, not really.”
“…………”
However.
It wasn’t that Ringo and Asahi were at odds. In fact, the youngest sister, Asahi, was rather doted upon. Regardless, Ringo indulged in this tea party, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say she spoiled her a little.
“Still, sweets are wonderful, aren’t they? They look beautiful, taste great, and nutritionally, they’re perfect for me. Akane is truly amazing,” Asahi exclaimed.
“If you think so, why not come back more often? You could enjoy Akane’s home-cooked meals,” Ringo suggested.
“That’s very tempting, but, well, you know?” Asahi replied with a playful tone.
As their lighthearted conversation continued, the prepared sweets eventually disappeared, prompting Asahi to shift to the main topic.
“Now then… For my report. As you know, Ringo, Magic Tools typically use Magic Stones. This means that Magic Stones serve as the power source!” Asahi began.
“Yes, I understand that from your previous report,” Ringo acknowledged.
“Exactly, Ringo! Now, Magic Tools can be divided into two types: passive and active. Passive types are always active, while active types require some action to be initiated!” Asahi explained, her excitement palpable.
Asahi’s enthusiasm for discussing magic was infectious, and Ringo knew that bringing up such topics would lift her spirits.
“Passive types are straightforward! A familiar example would be the Magic Essence Meter! It reacts to the surrounding Magic Density and automatically displays it! The issue lies with the active types!” Asahi continued.
“Indeed, I’ve heard that active types cannot be activated by anything we do. What about them?” Ringo inquired.
“That’s the problem! Now, for the main topic, I have something here with me!” Asahi declared, pulling out a palm-sized Magic Tool.
“Hmm. This is used for ignition, right? It’s quite popular among adventurers,” Ringo noted.
“Yes, exactly! It seems that if you wish for it to ignite, it activates…” Asahi said, twirling the stick-like Magic Tool in her hand while displaying a projection of its analysis results.
“There’s a troublesome monster in the Demon Forest called the Fire-Breathing Lizard. It sets the forest ablaze and causes wildfires. Apparently, it preys on small insects that come to the burnt, open areas. Can’t it find a more efficient way to live?” Asahi remarked.
This ignition Magic Tool is said to be crafted using the Fire-Breathing Lizard’s ignition organs and Magic Stones.
“In any case, this tool will blow fire from its tip if a human thinks, ‘I want to use it to start a fire,'” Asahi explained, pointing the hole-pierced tip toward the void.
And then, with a whoosh.
The ignition Magic Tool demonstrated its function.
Asahi is doing her best! Is she finally finding a foothold in understanding magic? Or is there some hidden trick? I’d love to see Ringo’s surprised face!
