Chapter 27: The Wrath of the Gods
“‘Doubt,’ is it?”
At Sensei’s assertive declaration, Ryuguin trembled.
“W-What are you saying?! You just barged in here and now you say ‘doubt’?! Is this woman out of her mind?!”
His expression, once teary, twisted into a furious sneer as he shouted, frothing at the mouth. However,
“The one who’s out of their mind is you, fool.”
Sensei cut him off sharply. Ryuguin’s displeasure was palpable.
“Who do you think you’re talking to?!”
He bellowed, his voice echoing through the chamber. Sensei shot him a cold glance, snapping her Scarlet Fan with a sharp crack. In her hand was her beloved sword.
“Shut up for a moment. Your noise is quite unbearable.”
With a swift flick of her wrist, she brandished her blade. The sound of slicing air followed a heartbeat later.
“Yikes…”
Ryuguin gasped in fear, collapsing onto the floor. He began to shake his head repeatedly at Sensei, as if trying to ingratiate himself.
“Now that this fool has quieted down, I’ll speak for a moment.”
Sensei surveyed the room. I glanced around as well. It was evident that many of the church officials were reacting excessively to Sensei’s presence. The Pope’s eyes were wide, nearly bulging from their sockets, while Cardinals and high priests alike were flustered, unsure whether to bow or clasp their hands in prayer, their faces pale with anxiety. Yet, among them, there were a few who wore expressions that seemed to say, “What’s with this woman? She’s pretty, but is she insane?”
“It seems that most of the members of the Klaatel Church understand without me having to say anything.”
Sensei’s gaze was piercing.
“Though there are some who remain muddled. Isn’t that right, Pope Odyssey?”
At Sensei’s words and gaze, the Pope turned pale and prostrated himself on the floor. Following his lead, nearly everyone else who had come to the same conclusion hurriedly followed suit, the last few remaining also bowing in a panic.
“Well then, straighten yourselves. We’ll discuss that matter after we deal with the heroes.”
The Pope responded, “As you wish,” and finally, the commotion among the church officials began to settle.
Turning to the bewildered Ryuguin, Sensei asked, “More importantly, Hero Ryuguin, the God you met had an expression that was ‘approaching old age, stern enough to make one instinctively bow their head in reverence,’ correct?”
Sensei snorted derisively. Ryuguin, having managed to stand, showed a flicker of uncertainty at her question but quickly masked it, responding with exaggerated gestures and a fervent expression.
“That’s right!! I saw him!! The stern-faced God with a beard!!!”
At that moment, a loud crash echoed—the sound of Sensei stomping the floor.
“Yikes!”
Once again, Ryuguin shrank back, falling silent.
“Hero, I regret to inform you, but such a God does not exist.”
“What’s your basis for that—”
“Basis? That’s obvious. My very existence is the basis, and your words are proof of your lies. There is no longer a God of that appearance in this world.”
I noticed the myriad emotions woven into her words. Among them was a fierce anger, but—
“To be more precise, the God of this country, the one worshipped by the Klaatel Church, is a woman.”
Some of the church officials gasped, tears welling in their eyes at Sensei’s proclamation. The Pope, in particular, was sobbing silently, and an unusual atmosphere enveloped the King’s Chamber.
“I am narrow-minded despite my title. You have spoken words that should not be uttered in my presence.”
Sensei’s anger intensified. Yet Ryuguin remained oblivious to the tension.
“Huh? So she really is a crazy woman!! Someone get this woman out of here immediately!!”
Ryuguin shouted at the soldiers and knights surrounding him. However, no one heeded his command. Completely unaware of the situation, he had made a grave mistake. His reckless words had ignited fierce anger among the church officials. At that moment, one Cardinal, pushed to his limit, unleashed a Fireball spell at Ryuguin.
“Ahhhhh!!! I’m burning!!! Why is this happening?! Ahhh! Aaaah! It’s so hot!!!”
As the Fireball struck Ryuguin, he was engulfed in flames in an instant, his figure consumed by the roaring inferno.
